eBay Fees don't match what I think they should be now that itemization is gone.

I'm a small seller (Comics) with maybe 100 sales a year and I usually don't pay attention to the fees because eBay is the only game in town sadly.

But the recent (bad) changes to sub-categories and adding dumb and lengthy details has made me pay attention to details the way I should have been.

I sold two comics for $6.00, charged $3.45 for shipping which cost me $2.89 and the eBay fee was $1.58.

For the life of me, I can't figure out how they got $1.58 and every eBay calculator gives me a different answer.

Question: Why doesn't eBay have a Fee Breakdown so we know?

Question: Does someone know how this Fee is calculated?

Question: How would I know if eBay was calculating the fee correctly without showing their work like any 8th grader doing math knows to do?

If the answer  is, the Fee is complicated and depends on a number of factors, my answer is that eBay needs to make this transparent.

You need to look at your Transaction Details for the Fees Breakdown.

Fee is based on total paid by the buyer even though you do not get the sales tax you are still charged a fee on it.

This would be my guess.

They do provide a detailed breakdown.....

Seller Hub -> Payments Tab -> All Transactions -> Find the Sale -> click on transaction details.

It's all laid out there with the amounts, fee base and percentages used.

(this info was added in April, it was not there before that).

It was the State Sales Tax that I had missed and that number is nowhere to be found on any transaction breakout I get as a seller. I have to know the rate and figure the number to check ebays fee.
