eBay AI

In the process of removing HTTP pictures, I am discovering all kinds of things that eBay suddenly has a problem with.

Some's job must depend on this.

I include some of the cast of the movies I list in the description.  Occasionally, the names of the characters have caused a problem.  Not that they are crude or rude, but that they are words which seem to terrify eBay.

Today's horror was "Western Union Man".  When removing the pictures, I was blocked from revising the listing, an old listing, has been listed before, because I was offering Western Union as a payment method.

This nonsense has happened before with other names that were words eBay gave other meaning to and I have had to slightly change the name.  I will probably have to make this "Western Onion Man".

Things like this always remind me of the book 1984.

Big Brother IS Watching.

Re: eBay AI

Yep, I ran into the Western Union one when I was listing a horse magazine where one of the horse's name was The Western Union. I had to take it out because Turbo Lister would not list it until I did.

Re: eBay AI

You have removed the option to pay via WU right? It is not an allowed form of acceptable payment.

But I agree - AI can be so stupid!!  The 'artificial' part needs to be lessened in that phrase and 'inteligence' be increased.  I too have been hit for using 'ivory' as a color.

It never was there.  In the cast of the movie, one character is named "Western Union Man" in the description and that triggered the block because the eBay computer claimed that was offering Western Union as a Payment.  Which, of course, I never was .

Strangely, this was never a problem when I listed this or relisted it, only when I tried to revise the listing it became a problem.  It's been listed for a couple of weeks.

I guess the program for removing HTTP is looking at everything in a Description.

Same with the words "checks" or "Money Order"

Re: eBay AI

You can't list monazite jewelry for what it is either, because (it's theorized) of a certain notorious period in the middle 20th century.

But speaking of rocks... eBay's AI does run on silicon microprocessors... which basically are rocks.

Check out the unicode alphabet. You might be able to get away with listing it as Westerñ Ünion Man, and foil the matching expression.

I'm just not going to revise it.  I'll remove the pictures in TL which doesn't have a problem with Western Union Man.  I wouldn't even buy a Western Union Money order.  Would never accept payment from them.  When I could accept money orders, I only took US Postal Money Orders.  Loved getting the mail every day and no PayPal fees.

Back then, buyers were not so demanding for instant gratification.  They cared that it arrived and in good condition.  Nobody timed the shipping and rated the seller on it.

@etvideo1ataol  You would think that in the Movie Category the Bots would  be sent elsewhere to look for real violations ...

Re: eBay AI

I have had some success leaving out the offensive word and listing the item then revising it to include the word.

No accounting for bots and A1.
