dealing with an unintelligent customer that refused to accept goods

  • so a customer today refuse to accept my package because he claim the box was bent. i ask him for pictures and he told me he didnt take any.

i dont understand why someone would refuse to accept a package since they are protected under ebay policies. now i have to pay return shipping plus taxes and duties to cross the border, then resend it using my own funds agian and all because he refused to take the item because the box looked damaged. didnt even bother to send pictures

i honestly hate some ebay customers i feel like ebay has created this envirment were we sellers have to bend down to unfair or dumb buyers.

i made a post here about how to be a good buyer and it got deleted. smfh

Buyer may not know he's covered and often delivery people suggest refual on a box that appears damaged but buyer actually voided buyer protection by refusing package.Buyer is due of item price when/if you get it back(you do not refund shipping paid). You do not have to pay to resend to buyer-IF they want it back you send a paypal money request for the shipping amount or refund/cancel and relist for buyer to rebuy.Talk to your customs dept to find out the policy on customs/fees on returns. You may have to pay to get delivery but apply for them to be refunded.Buyers customs costs and fees are not responsibilty to recover/refund-he talks to his customs dept.

The buyer could of saved postage if he would of put "REFUSED" "Return to Sender" any unopen package or letter will be reversed FREE if these words are on the item...

Some don't have the ability to take pictures. I, for one, own a digital camera but the batteries are dead. Nor do I own a smart phone although I do have a camera on the phone I do own. Unfortunately, pictures taken with this camera aren't very clear.

The problem is Op said FEDEX driver? That means there was almost definitely tax on it. That is why he refused it. Especially if it wasn't marked as gift or Commercial sample

FedEx charges plenty for various surcharges, dealing with customs, residential delivery, zip code surcharge, oversize surcharge, etc. http://images.fedex.com/us/services/pdf/Fees_Shipping_Information.pdf

The buyer was within his rights to refuse delivery of a damaged package, regardless of whether you approve and want to insist - when you don't know - that the contents were probably fine.

You need your own FedEx account if you're going to buy labels through eBay/Amazon/etsy so you can deal with FedEx because eBay's FedEx account belongs to eBay!!

If the tracking says it was damaged...........why do you doubt THAT?  And if the tracking says damaged, since Fedex is the only one that can make the tracking info, that would seem to be a implicit admission that the package is damaged and you should be able to collect from them.

As a customer, I sure wouldn't want to accept an obviously damaged package.....so call me unintelligent also..........

Afternoon,

Just as we sellers do not like being held to unfair standards imposed on us by ebay we also should not transfer this attitude to our customers.

I've received some packages that were torn open, crushed, and there was water damage.  Miraculously, the items inside were just fine.  Then again, I understand how to open cases and deal with this stuff.  While I do think the buyer should have at least accepted and looked ust to make sure, their hesitancy is very understandable.  I don't think this was a dumb move, it's just an inconvenient one.

I am pretty sure that a buyer loses their protection if they refuse a package.

Not if it's damaged and with written proof from the carrier, which it seems the buyer has.

Exceptions:

  • The buyer can provide, via written proof from the carrier, that they refused the package because it arrived empty or was damaged in shipping

  • The buyer accepted and opened the package only to determine that it was an empty box

  • The item arrived COD because it didn't have enough postage on it

Your buyer had two choices ...

A) accept it, inspect it, file a claim, repackage it, re-ship it, and wait for refund; or

B) refuse it and let you do all the work

... and you are calling him "unintelligent" for picking option B?
