I don't think its a coincidence. I think he left before the firestorm started. this is a huge deal. this is not going to go well with ebay buyers who are not used to paying sales tax. there will be a huge increase in cancelled transactions because of this. its going to take a year or 2 for buyers to get used to paying sales tax on ebay.
most ebay sellers ALREADY before this added tax were BARELY making it ,so now what? gonna get even worse.
so that former CEO, is it fair to say that ultimately he allowed this to go ahead on ebay? everyone knows that ebay is full of used and old stuff that has been sold who knows how many times already and been taxed a bunch of times already. its not fair all.
It should have been that only new items on ebay were charged sales tax and not used items.

First, plenty of sellers were already collecting Sales tax..... Amazon has been collecting it for years where they have warehouses, and that's more than a few places. Now all on line "marketplaces" will have to collect it, so it will a level playfield
If you want to gripe.......complain to your state reps.......
I can almost guarantee that the sales tax had nothing to do with the CEO leaving.......

O really because earlier this year only a few states charges sales tax on ebay and now all of a sudden in the past DAYS since ceo left almost all 50 states are collecting the sales tax. its a huge deal. most ebay sellers and I mean long time , good, experienced ebay sellers are starving to death these days and NOW we have to deal with this tax **bleep**? Its ridiculous, this is literally going to make a bunch more people homeless. this will kill many ebay sellers.

Sales tax has been collected by some "sellers" for years.
AS you know, eBay has been required by law to start collecting/remitting sales tax. That has been doing on for many months. Many states were added on Oct 1st, but it did not just start.

Well we hear a new one every day. So the CEO left Ebay because states charge sales tax ? OK

@kevincal20 Nobody at eBay, Etsy, Amazon, WalMart, Target, Staples, Macy's, Bonanza, Poshmark, etc. had any say in US States passing laws to allow them to collect Sales tax for online purchases crossing their boarders.
I think high shipping costs negatively affect online sales more than sales tax ...
As to the former CEO and his departure influencing how eBay is run now or in the future ... time will tell. I am not hearing that there has been a huge spike in sales as I suspect the vast majority of Buyers have no clue who was the CEO of eBay or, for that matter, Etsy, Amazon, WalMart, Target, Staples, Macy's, Bonanza, Poshmark, etc.

man that is some whaky stuff may I suggest

I agree with that. Been trying to buy fall flannel shirts and sellers are charging $12 to throw something in a flat rate padded envelope. I could understand maybe $10, but $12 with no packaging? Before anyone starts lecturing about buckets it’s usually the sellers who charge the highest item price and/or whose descriptions contain a “see pictures for condition”

I don't buy a ton of stuff on eBay but as a Seller I know about what shipping "should" be so when I search for something as a perspective Buyer and see Sellers charging $ 15.00 flat rate for a 1-2 lbs item that with Parcel Select will be less then $ 10 I steer clear ...

A couple of years back, I was in the market for a new windbreaker because my old one was wearing out. Did some research, found a model that looked good, came on eBay to do a search... it retailed new for $50 and I found a seller selling a used one for $35 including shipping. Now, windbreakers are light and can be easily squished down into a flat rate envelope.
A few days later, I happened to poke my head into Marshalls looking for something else, and guess what I found? That same windbreaker, brand new with tags... for $19.99.
Guess where I bought it.

ya well chew on this... maybe instead of ebay and ceo supposedly "lobbying hard" against this sales tax b.s., maybe instead he took a payoff and split and HELPED the process along. correct me if im wrong but ebay is the second biggest online marketplace behind amazon... this is a HUGE deal all this added tax recently, it feels like its only been the past days or weeks where almost every transaction I am in , be it I am buyer or seller, sales tax is there. feels like just about every state is in on it now....
I sold a 100 dollar painting recently and was surprised to see the sales tax added on and guess what I guess the buyer was surprised too CUS HE NEVER PAID. why would he make me an offer, I accept, and then he not pay? Because he didn't factor in the sales tax now he prolly thinks im ripping him off. Only some ebay sellers know about all these states adding sales tax to purchases the grand majority of buyers on ebay that are "buyer only" are completely out of the loop and they have no idea about all this added tax on ebay they are just now finding out and probably by the thousands backing out of purchases because they see the sales tax added on..
what they barely thought was worth buying at 100 bucks now just aint worth buying when they feel they are being ripped off paying another 8 bucks for some old used product. and most ebay sellers are tiny business barely making a living selling stuff from their home! Hardly a "business" more like a survivor! most of us ebay sellers are simply trying to survive and make enough for bills and food! all this tax makes me angry. instead of going after us small time ebay sellers they should nail the wealthy! but oh well now there will be even more homeless people in the USA thanks to internet tax, how nice!
