Buyer returned item to the wrong address. Ebay charged my account and gave me transaction defect that case closed without seller resolution. Awful customer service. Absolutely no sellers protection.

Did you provide the buyer with prepaid return label? If so eBay would have the label addressed to whatever address you have for returns in your account settings.

You still have to respond to the case accordingly, if the return shipment has a scan as delivered. In this case you need to refund and file an appeal on the back-end with written proof you did not receive the item back.

@estateofsocrates

What did you do when you found out the item was delivered to the wrong address?

Did you notify Ebay that you had not received it and could prove it went to some other address?

Did you provide the return shipping label to the buyer?

First tell us what you did so we can help you with what you should do now.

Ebay provided shipping label. I called eBay and explained that item was delivered to wrong zip code which clearly shows on USPS tracking number. They still decided in buyer's favor.

@slippinjimmy
FWIW
Unfortunately,  that is not always the case anymore.  In the past, 'buyers' who engaged in the fake tracking return scam, would purchase a cheap trinket on the net,  and ship it to the local CVS or gas station etc. in the seller's Zip Code to satisfy eBay a return has been made.  A buyer is not required to use the label provided by the seller/eBay.

Now it is quite common for a return scam buyer to actually use the label provided by eBay, and simply alter the addresses as needed.  Carriers ship to the address on the label.  Thus,  it has the same tracking number,  but still goes to the "wrong address.", and eBay is still satisfied a return has been made.  It is worse if the parcel is shipped to an "empty lot" for tracking will show undeliverable/RTS which makes it look like the SELLER refused the package.   I have noticed that this is a ploy often used by some international users of freight forwarders.

Should that be the case for our OP @estateofsocrates   (originally shipped to a freight forwarder) they can ask eBay for redress via the social media CS reps, for users of freight forwarders do not have MBG protections other than for INR, BUT THE SELLER MUST PURSUE that with eBay, since eBay automatically treats these like any other domestic sale.

I may need more coffee..........but sounds like you are saying the buyer changed the label?  If that's the case, I would go to the PO and ask for a printout of the label which should show the change.......

I am presuming you have checked your account to be sure the address is entered correctly...........

@estateofsocrates
You need to contact eBay through one of their social media portals.

https://www.facebook.com/eBay/ (use the blue message button)

OR one of these:

https://www.instagram.com/ebayforsellers/

https://x.com/askebay

You need to explain that the tracking shows delivery to a different Zip Code, that is not yours.  See what they have to say.  They can tell they used the label provided or not.

To what city/state did you ship the product in the first place?

OK, that means you approved the return and checked the box to issue a label in the claim.  So you need to check your addresses you have on Ebay.  Ebay would have pulled your address for returns from your Site Preferences.

@estateofsocrates

Use one of these contact links to explain, not the regular foreign call center agents you get in a call back or chat.

https://www.facebook.com/eBay/ (use the blue message button)

OR one of these:

https://www.instagram.com/ebayforsellers/

https://x.com/askebay

Do you get to see the label eBay sent on your behalf?
