Yeah but one $30 nut doesn't seem like they're up against new seller limits..

All new Sellers start out with small listing limits. E-Bay does this to insure there is limited fraud exposure to a Buyer.
Not directed at you as a Seller - it is pretty much what we see with brand new Sellers, especially listing in certain categories.

He has an option to buy 10 of them, though, using up his $500 monthly allotment

Ahh Thanks.. I didn't go into the actual listing..
OP sometimes there are category limits, you might be able to list something in another category..

I may be missing something but this is what I see when I look at your listing.
You have 1 item priced at $30.00 each + $12 shipping.
This 5/8 nut is worth less than $1.00 each.
Yeah, you may have a problem.
Good luck!!

If you want to list more reduce the count on the hex nuts to 2 ($60) and you should be alloted about $440 more if your limit is $500. Should be.... this is eBay anything can happen.

The listing states over 10 pcs on hand. We do not know the actual number of pcs available.
If seller has 100 of these nuts at the list price of $30 each, they would total $3,000 of inventory for sale.
This would be waaaaay over the limit for new sellers I believe.
Of course no one is going to buy this item at this price.
This listing surely has an error.
Maybe a bag of 25 or 30 pcs is $30????

Thanks I hadn't checked quantity available and I agree there must be some error as other listings are a box of 50 for that price.

As mentioned, you're new and used your monthly allotment of 10 units on a single listing. Allotment will go up as you make sales.
Barring what the nut may or may not be worth. Your best bet is for before it resets next month, lower the quantity to 1 or 2 and list other stuff. Also at 1 or 2 quantity. As you make sales and your limits increase, you can also increase your quantity.

Good thing, too, because without that it would look very strange - @legacypackaging you need that in the title, too.
But yeah, the multiple quantities is what blew through the listing limit. Agree to list maybe quantity of two and list other items until the limit is met.
