canceling an order when the buyer doesn't pay

How long do I have to wait until a buyer doesn't pay for an item?

Can I cancel even though they have yet to "get back to me" saying they don't want it anymore?

thanks

@mtobooks The correct way to handle a non paying buyer is to open an unpaid item case. Go to the item in your orders page and select buyer hasn't paid for this item. Just follow the procedures, it's very easy to do. This way you will be refunded for your fees from eBay and be able to relist the item for free. Plus buyer will receive a demerit for non payment, if they get enough of those they will lose out on buying opportunities. The system is set up to help you out in these types of instances. Best of luck to you....

Hi I'm just seeing this now... I new to eBay and very confused to the overall workings of the platform.  Thank you for the feedback and the information on this. this was a spammer who I also reported

Since you posted your original message, eBay has established another way to handle a non-paying bidder.

If/when the bidder has not paid within 4 days, eBay will, on the 5th day, cancel the transaction, refund your FVF and give that bidder a strike.  But you have to set your listings to allow eBay to do that for you.

You can manually do this at 4 days 01 seconds by going into your Seller Hub, Orders, Awaiting Payment, Actions (for the item), Cancel Order, and choose "Buyer Hasn't Paid" as the reason to cancel the order.  Make sure you choose "Buyer Hasn't Paid" and not any other option if this is the case.

How do you set your listings for ebay to do that for you? Thanks in advance

Re: canceling an order when the buyer doesn't pay

You can cancel a transaction for non-payment after four days on the fifth day.  You can set it up for eBay to do this automatically.  However, since your listings appear to all be fixed price ones, I recommend using the IPR option and not entertaining offers.
