I've had an eBay site for about a year now, selling products online that appear to be popular. That has not been a problem until the past month. Then all orders began to be canceled. I don't fulfil an order through a supplier until someone chooses to buy it because I have no way to see into the future to see what a random customer might decide to order. When I receive an order on eBay, I place the order from a supplier (Costco for example) and have it shipped directly to the customer.
Customer service says that isn't allowed. I'm supposed to mass order items, store them at home, hope that someone will decide to order that specific item from me and then package and ship it from my home. Not only is that inefficient, it is more expensive to do so. The small profit that could be made is impossible that way.
I don't believe for a minute that all eBay sellers are buying stock, storing it in their homes and just hoping someone will randomly decide to buy that particular item. Any suggestions on how to resolve this or do I just cancel my eBay site and go elsewhere?

And you should not believe that, because there are plenty of sellers who are not doing that - but they are following eBay's drop shipping rules when they do.
For the record, all my listed items on all six of my selling accounts are in my possession.

That is precisely what most Ebayers do & most sellers on other sites as well.

Drop shipping is not against eBay rules - drop shipping from a retailer is against rules.

I forgot to add I have over 8000 different items and ALL of them are in my possession. I have multiples of many of them.

It's also what B&M retailers and wholesalers do as well, except their stuff is stored in their stores/warehouses.

Most of the larger sellers you see here DO actually have possession of the thousands of items they sell, not necessarily in their homes, but in their warehouses that they own and work from. This is their business and their livelihood. It's actual real WORK, not just listing stuff from other websites and jacking the prices up to make a bit of profit. That's not work, that's playing store, and it's not allowed here.

"... listing an item on eBay and then purchasing the item from another retailer or marketplace that ships directly to your customer is not allowed on eBay. Activity that doesn’t follow eBay policy could result in a range of actions including but not limited to: administratively ending or canceling listings, hiding or demoting all listings from search results, lowering seller rating, buying or selling restrictions, loss of buyer or seller protections, and account suspension. All fees paid or payable in relation to listings or accounts on which we take any action will not be refunded or otherwise credited to your account."
I personally have over 5k items in my possession to list, but I'm just too busy/lazy right now to do it. Of course, I sell paper and all of that only takes up a few plastic shoeboxes.

Ebay expects you to ship what you were selling. You failed to do so.
It does not really matter what way you spin it.
YOU failed to deliver to a winning buyer .

Some have storage sheds in their backyard or rent one. But a lot do keep stuff in their home. Myself, I have about a dozen utility shelves in my garage and office/craft room. Others actually run a store or warehouse.
Of course, you will find those that do what you do and buy through Amazon, Home Depot, or Walmart.
Can be a bit annoying buying something and it coming in a Home Depot box. But also my fault for not shopping around better I guess. I can't imaging the net profit being all that great for this. But to each their own.
Do it. Don't do it. But understand eBay doesn't like your version of "drop shipping." And you can get suspended pretty quick doing it. A lot of the marketplaces are this way.

They normally call because the price doesn't match what they pay or because the dropshipper misrepresented the item.
I don't know if it is a sustainable business model, seems like customer complaints or returns would always eventually wreck the account.
I received an email from FedEx today alerting me to the delivery details of a package from Sam's Club. I'm not a Sam's Club member, so I chatted with the Sam's Club online customer service rep. She was able to identify that it was an item I ordered from an Amazon marketplace seller who then turned around and ordered the item with their "Plus" account at Sam's Club--something that's apparently not allowed by the Sam's Club ToS. She said she'd be escalating the account for review.
