If the buyer filed a refund request saying it's not as described then I am sorry to say but you must accept the return.

Under the ebay MBG the buyer just has to SAY that the item is not as described and you MUST accept the return and refund the buyer.

IF you do not do so willingly then eBay steps in and forces a refund. You do not get your sellers fees back, you get a DEFECT and the buyer may be allowed to keep the item.

If the buyer abuses the eBay MBG in some way then you can report them but it doesn't get your money back

The only slight protection a seller has is if they offer FREE RETURN shipping on their listings OR if they are a Top Rated seller and offer 30 days or greater returns.  The seller can then reduce the refund amount by up to 50% if the buyer sends a different item or somehow reduces the value of the item.

Re: calling Ebay

I know you're asking a specific question, for ebay's phone number, which i don't have.

I just wanted to let you know that if a customer  files a "not as described" claim, you have no choice but to accept the return at your expense.  It doesn't matter how right you are or how wrong the customer is or how much evidence you have, ebay will always side with the buyer.

If you don't accept the return, ebay will refund the buyer with your money AND they wont have to return the item.

It sucks but that's the way it is.   You're much better off just accepting the return.

Good luck and stay safe!

You have been around a long time. The drill should be seamless by this point.

Re: calling Ebay

You might try reaching out to customer service on eBay’s Facebook page. Have heard positive info about their responsiveness.

But i agree with the other posters, if the buyer opened a case, you must refund. If the buyer is saying it is not as described but has yet to open a case, i would still tell them to return for refund. No back and forth with the buyer. No tug of war. Just “Sorry you are unhappy with your purchase. Please return for refund.” Nothing else need be said.

When selling clothes online, the buyer doesn't have the opportunity to examine or try on the garment, making returns a fact of retail life. To avoid bogus Not As Described cases being opened, you may be better off having a return policy with buyer pays return shipping. Unhappy determined buyers know a No Return policy can be overridden by the Money Back Guarantee. Plus then you are on the hook for the return shipping as well. It is a lose-lose situation.

The eBay penalties for not willingly refunding are steep. So do not delay in managing the return. Once the case is closed, you can appeal, if you feel you have a strong case. The appeal is where an actual person examines the evidence. That is your opportunity to right the ship. Below is the link on how to appeal, if you need it. Good luck, sorry you ran into this unhappy buyer.

Re: calling Ebay

Ebay has clear policies and you should accept the return graciously or risk forfeit of item and money.  No reason to talk to anyone, they will tell you the same.

Color perception is very subjective and there are lots of variables including the screen it's viewed on, background colors and the lighting used.  I might think it's green and another would say it's turquoise.

My sister is six years older than I, and she taught me all my colors wrong (when our mom was out of earshot). I still struggle with the subtle variations between certain shades of blues and greens.

True story.

I've had good luck going to the Contact page and hitting the button for a "Call Back." I've never waited more than 10 minutes. The last time I called eBay refunded me $43 (my expense to remedy an eBay International Standard Delivery problem).
