I have sold 20 items on eBay now, and out of those, 3 have been to people who refused to pay. Reporting them for non-payment seems only to cancel the transaction; it has no impact on their feedback status.
How can I make sure feedback shows that will warn other sellers to avoid these shoppers? I am beyond frustrated--in each case, it was an item that had some interest from other people and probably would have sold to someone who actually paid, but it got tied up for a week or more with a non-payer.
Thank you for any advice you might have.

It does not affect their "feedback status" because buyers can have only positive feedback, no matter what. BUT having the non-payment strikes does have its effect because most sellers have their preferences set to avoid non-payers.

Try BIN w/ IPR and don't do offers.

After four days you can cancel the transaction for nonpayment to give the buyer a strike and prevent feedback from being left by either party. If you cancel earlier or for other reasons, the buyer will not get a strike.
Add the user to your Blocked Buyer List to prevent that particular user from bidding on or buying any more of your listings, regardless of what other sellers do.

Be sure to set your Buyer Requirements to preemptively block bids or purchases from users with two or more unpaid item strikes in the last year.
You can avoid many common scams by listing your item for a fixed price with immediate payment required and by not making or accepting any offers. That way the buyer must complete checkout and actually pay in order to proceed.

same old ebay problem. let ebay sellers who do auctions block 0 or low feedback bidders. ebay bragged about solving the problem ( with fixed price bin instant payment ) ebay has failed the sellers who do auctions and allowing many no good non paying bidders to get an account the day the items end. i have come to believe it is being done by other sellers who dont like people who do fair auction. also same old people on this board who tell sellers to do bin to defend the non paying bidders who bid and not pay auctions. maybe ebay should go back to all auctions.

I'm one of those people.
I don't "tell" sellers to use buy it now/fixed price/immediate payment required.
I "suggest" it to them. It's a lot less headache.
How is that defending non paying bidders?

Maybe we need a review here about sellers' options regarding nonpaying bidders.
If a buyer has not paid within 4 days, that seller can, on day #5, cancel that sale, using "buyer did not pay" as the reason.
The buyer then has a "strike". Two of those in a twelve month period will mean that most smart sellers have set their requirements so that they do not have to deal with that seller.
We recently had a report here about a buyer whose feedback apparently reflected at least 150 incidents of not paying. While the # is somewhat suspect, my point here is that, if just TWO of those sellers had cancelled as above, the door would have slammed shut on that person about 148 transactions ago.
On eBay, as just about anywhere else, we have to work within the guidelines/rules set for us.
