**bleep** is with all these returns?!!!

**bleep** is with all these returns lately???   I've been selling on eBay for almost 2 decades, and I have never seen bull**bleep** returns to the extent I have now.  All this 'money back guarantee' promotion ebay is doing is making the marketplace ripe for free rentals.

I'm having people buying stuff, expensive stuff, using it for a week or two, then returning it saying 'changed my mind' or 'it doesn't fit'. Then I get it back and have to go through it with a fine tooth comb to make sure, it's the same item, no parts have been swapped out, that its in the identical condition, etc. Then I have to refund in full - eating the shipping if I offered 'free shipping' in the first place, which for expensive insured items, is pretty pricy.

I'm calling horse**bleep** on all this. I'm not a volume anchor store that can swallow hits like this as they are amortized over thousands of sales - no it's happening to me on roughly 30% of all my sales over $200.

Something has to be done to change this as obviously this forced 30 day return policy is getting severely abused.

I'm afraid eBay's response to you would be for YOU to change and just suck it up. Now might be the time to see if you can sell elsewhere, online or local, because it won't get any better here

We all know that ebay expects the sellers to take it up the rear.  If only there was another viable marketplace for my wares, but sadly eBay is really the only game in town

Your Items are hardly the type of thing people want to "rent".

Where do you see the poster asking for ebay's response?

Really? I think the poster was just showing frustration with returns which I am sure never happened to you.

I don't see anything that suggests Ebay is forcing a thirty day return policy.  You could change it to no returns if you care to.  You might like that better, and be happier.

Ebay is forcing us to use free returns for top rated sellers plus the 30 day return window.  that just encourages people to return.   before we could use buyer pays return postage and that cut down on returns.

And I know when I go to leave feedback, right next to it is a big link saying "return this item" like they want us to.  nothing like encouraging the bad behavior.   thankfully, I sell low cost items and don't have many returns.

This has been repeated over and over but if a buyer is satisfied with their transaction, that button isn't going to entice them to anything.  It is just there to make it easy for those who want to return to do so.

On the contrary. People will buy an expensive camera and/or lens to use for a holiday or an event, then return it.

People will buy a scanner to scan film then return it once they’ve competed their scan

It’s ripe territory for abuse.

You’re obviously not a top rated seller, otherwise you’d know you must take returns and offer at least a 30 day window.

I hear yah. Went through the same thing yesterday, sitting in appeal to see if I might get my return shipping money back for the dude who claimed that I sold him a game that was not working (the game is perfect and working great)

Never said I was, and yes, I do know that.  My point was it is your choice; no one says you have to be a TRS, you chose to be, so you chose to accept those terms.  Others have chosen not to.

Don't like the terms, drop them, change them.  Nobody is forcing it on you.

I wouldn't choose to be something when I didn't agree with the conditions.  I would exercise free will to change them.  But your call.

I can see games especially being abused with returns.

Yes, it's a problematic thing to sell.

I gave up my TRS badge when they wanted to force free 30 day returns. I was with them with every change until free returns. I actually have a really low return rate (particularly for clothing, shoes and accessories), but have seen an increase in dishonest returns in the last 6 months (mainly making up some fake problem so they don't have to pay for shipping). I would have to raise my prices significantly to offer free returns. I stopped doing free shipping on items when I changed from no returns to 30 day returns. I am now starting to list things as no returns again, because I am moving across country in a few months and want to get my inventory level down. After I get my inventory down, I am going to transition to selling mainly makeup, bath & body, handbags and small luxury items because mainly clothing is what is returned.

I started selling on other sites in August 2018, that do not allow returns OR accept returns on behalf of sellers. I have significantly increased my income by doing so.

I think your items would sell on Mer***i (not sure if I am allowed to name it here)...I highly recommended selling on multiple platforms at once. It is harder from a bookkeeping standpoint, but wonderful for increasing sales.
