best way to title a listing

This may be a little in the weeds, but here goes.   I have been listing things for several years.  However, I guess I still don't know the best way.  I don't know if I am using a hyphen wrong, or what.  For example, I listed an Airline ticket jacket for Frontier Airlines.  My listing reads "Airline ticket jacket Frontier Airlines" I want it to appear under   "Airline ticket Jackets" which has say 1200 items listed.  Instead, it will show up in the subcategory  "Airline ticket jacket Frontier Airlines" which has say 60 items listed.  In other words, my listing is being seen by a much smaller audience.  Any recommendations?  Hope this makes sense.

@fallgold4031May be I'm reading this wrong. When you say 1200 listed or 60 listed, that refers to how many other listings are on ebay for that item. By specifying Frontier Airlines as you did, you are actually making it easier for buyers to find that exact item and have fewer listing to compete with. Please let me know if I'm understanding your question.

Yes, your right.  However, my goal is to let the larger number of viewers see my ticket jacket without focusing exclusively on those buyers just looking for Frontier Airlines.  In other words, I am trying to let those interested in ticket jackets in general see my listing.  It seems like many times some of my listings just become isolated and do not receive a broad exposure.  Hope that makes sense.  Thanks for your help.

Your listing will be found by anyone who enters the appropriate keywords, regardless of the category if they shop by entering keywords.  If they browse or use left side drill down, it will be found if it meets the criteria the buyer clicked on.  That's one of the reasons IS's are so important & you should never type in your own IS.

Hyphens are ignored by search, as are most special characters.  It really won't hurt you, but it won't help you either.

Your ticket jacket will show up regardless if you name the airlines or not. The difference is for a buyer search. Typing southwest airlines ticket jacket will only show a buyer all the tickets for southwest airlines which will include yours. It is easier to find for someone wanting a specific airlines. For a buyer just looking for ANY ticket jacket regardless of the airlines, they will just type airlines ticket jacket. The problem is they may not see yours even though it is there, because it could be on page 38. Personally I would stick to the specific airlines in the title.

@fallgold4031 \\On your listing for Southwest Airlines (new listing)

I was always taught to use every inch of that Title Real Estate - all 80 characters if possible

You have:

southwest airlines - ticket jackets two jackets

I would not repeat the word "jackets"

Might be better:

Southwest Airlines SWA Ticket Jackets Folders Lot of 2 RED Blue Unused

and insert whether used, unused, the year if it is on the ticket jacket, etc

You also only have 1 picture and it looks like it is a stock photo, not actually what your buyer will receive?  I would make the pix of the actual item(s), front, back, opened, etc.  Do a close up of the date if it is on the folder and denote any flaws, if applicable.

I was disappointed to learn that these weren’t special airline clothing jackets. I was envisioning embroidered, crested jackets from an era before when receiving a small bag of peanuts was considered a luxury item. 😉

@fallgold4031  Good Morning. Anyone can see your listing. You're not limiting the # of people who can see your listing. You're just making is easier for people to find exactly what you're selling. You can remove the "Frontier" detail, but that means that buyers who want a plain item or a different item will have to sift through listings that are not what they need. It can also result in buyers opening returns. Many people just glance at an item, then purchase without checking out the details.

I do see what you're saying - if you omit the "Frontier" your item will show up in more search results.

You can choose what category you list under. I'm not familiar with listing your particular type of item, but when I list a networking switch, I choose the category computers, Networking... then I create my own store categories and choose the brand Cisco, HP, etc.

Arline Jacket ticket name of airline......

The first second and so one seem to effect the mess in the indexing as well as how it comes up in a search.
