avoiding a negative feedback

So have a question. Sold an item to a buyer 2 to 3 weeks ago everything went perfect payment shipping etc . I left feedback for this item, and he did not which is fine happens all the time not getting feedback .  Sold another item to the same buyer on Saturday 4.1.23 still no payment . I'm going to cancel transaction as a non payment today as per eBay rules and relist. My fear is that he is going to leave a negative feedback on the first item he bought since he still hasn't left any feedback for 1st item, because I'm closing 2nd auction he won with eBay  as a non paying bidder which will give him a non paying strike.

I did send an extremely polite email this morning asking him if he was still intending to buy the item he won 4.1.23 and have not gotten a response . This is the only email I have sent to him since original invoice eBay sends when an auction is won so know email harassments on my part. Any thoughts if I have a legitimate concern ?

Re: avoiding a negative feedback

My first thought is to not worry about retaliatory feedback. That is something out of your control.

eBay no longer uses feedback to evaluate seller performance. That’s because feedback can be arbitrary, subjective and is entirely voluntary, making it an unreliable measure, and therefore not important enough to affect one’s set course.

Also keep in mind that a professional response to a neg, one that shows your concern and customer service skills, can  be powerful enough to utterly disarm the poor rating.

Well, you really don't have to cancel the transaction, you can wait until they pay or can no longer leave a feedback

Unfortunately there's nothing you can do regarding his feedback on the first transaction. Sending the polite email is good.

Perhaps follow up and say something like "since you're a repeat customer I don't want you to get a non-payment strike, if you don't pay by this date, I can cancel it as "buyer requested" so there are no issues with eBay." You will often find they do reply at some point because they didn't mean to stiff you and not pay, they just had something going on in life.

That is a valid point. You don't pay fees until the buyer pays (that's what I noticed with MP). Generally I cancel with a strike when I think they just bought the item and didn't intend to pay for it. Any repeat customers, people with high feedback who are serious buyers, and all that... I will give lots of chances to avoid the non payment strike.

Re: avoiding a negative feedback

Don't say anything about feedback to the customer.

You reached out once.

He may not have noticed he did not pay. I don't know if eBay actually tells buyers that they earned a  UID Strike. It would be more transparent, but some buyers seem to be shocked when they learn they are Blocked by thousands of sellers because of Strikes.

Does he leave a lot of feedback? What is it like?

Re: avoiding a negative feedback

how many feedbacks does this buyer have? If it's lots, i would just give him some more time, Holiday week, could be traveling, who knows. Especially for a repeat buyer.
