I really hope I am wrong, but this is only the beginning of your problems. Phones are one of the scammers favorite targets, especially when sold by a new seller.
I see a return in your future, with the buyer sending you back an empty box, & eBay refunding them out of your $$$. You'll be out the phone and the $$$.
Like I said, I hope I am wrong but I don't think I will be.
Good luck.

Too bad you didn't read up on how selling works here on ebay BEFORE you sold something.
08-16-2024 02:58 PM
Are you sure that is what happened.
Normally (like 99.99% of the time) eBay takes their fees and the REMAINING amount is subject to the hold. Also, when you buy a shipping label via eBay you can choose to use Funds On Hold for the cost of the label.

I’m reminded of a posting on the Canadian discussion boards from a new seller outraged that eBay was holding their considerable funds from a few sales. A bit of detective work revealed that the seller was up to no good and was hoping to take the money from their questionable sales and run.
“A Google Pixel 8 Pro for a steal” sends up all sorts of red flags for me. I’m hoping I’m wrong, too.

Usually, when a buyer wants the item 'fast', that can be a red flag leading to a scam, but I hope Im wrong too. Good luck.

You are more than likely looking at ~30 days to get paid, IF the buyer does not take you for a ride on this transaction in the meantime.
I hope you had all your banking information approved before you sold.
If you think Amazon would have been easier.... well at least you would still have the phone.

Hindsight is wonderful but if you needed the money quickly you should have sold it on CL of FBM for cash with no fees.

I'm lost on this part 🤔
Are you saying that they went into you MP attached checking, or just that you are showing a negative (-) in available funds?
That negative is normal/common when the buyer payment is still processing.

im dissapointed, im starving, i did as told, they charged me enough, and I gotta wait a month to get my money, I live in mt. we don't have taxes, I would have elevated theprice if I knew they were going to tax me 30 percent on top of an 80 dollar fee, virtual **bleep**

Ebay doesnt tax the seller, they tax the buyer, depending on which state they live in.

Until you've been selling for 90 days and sold 25 items your payments will be held until tracking shows delivered, or in 21 days if there's no tracking.
They can hold the payment for the full 21 days if you're selling in a high risk category.
Phones are a high risk category.
I have also seen 30 days mentioned as the Hold, but I believe that was on my home site (Canada).
The phone sold for $525.+$7.71 shipping (seems low ?). The buyer also paid his state sales taxes.
EBay charges fees on the ENTIRE Payment.
The fee on phones is 13.5%.
So the fee would be about $75 (at a 10% sales tax) PLUS the cost of the shipping label you bought.
Are you rounding up on the fees you were charged?

Reading all the replies, I am not disappointed.

Did ebay charge you some hidden fees that they were not supposed to?
What a bunch of crooks. Shame on them.

So sorry for your circumstances. Wish you had come here prior to listing to get some direction.
eBay is not the place to make a quick sale for urgent financial needs. But hopefully by posting your experience, you might have spared others the same fate.
The main concern now is hoping the buyer is happy and keeps the phone. Even though you selected No Returns, you are still on the hook for a full refund if the buyer claims the item is not as described or it arrives damaged. In actual practice, there is no such thing as “no returns” on eBay—your sales terms only hold up for buyer remorse claims. The Money Back Guarantee trumps any seller’s No Returns.
You also need to consider a problem could occur down the line in the future which could prompt a buyer to seek satisfaction from their credit card company (in a chargeback). Such a payment dispute can cost a seller loss of the income from the sale.
There is no way to avoid this risk. Even if you closed your accounts, if you cannot refund in full, you can get turned over to collections and held accountable for the refund. That has the potential to ruin one’s credit. Credit card chargebacks are out of the hands of you or eBay, and they can happen months after the sale.
“I sold a google pixel 8 pro for a steal...”
I wouldn't say your buyer necessarily got a steal. The price of $525 is in line with what other eBay sellers are getting for the identical “open box” Google Pixel 8 Pro smartphone with 256 GB. The link below is one such example. It is from another sale two days ago, except his was brand new with original packaging and unopened. He also received $525. Yes, some sold for more and others less, but it appears you got the median price for yours.
”…seller needs the product fast, got it out as fast I could, it did not ship til today,..”
Although, with the one-day handling as shown in the listing, the item was to have been in the mail by end of day on the 15th. I know you stated you won’t do anymore business with the platform, but why burn any bridges? eBay requires sellers to meet those deadlines and it can affect one’s seller performance metrics.
“i regret not going with amazon“
That venue requires their open box items to have the original intact packaging. It wasn't clear from your listing if that was available. Amazon also has seller requirements similar to eBay’s. One cannot simply fall into e-commerce without learning all the rules, if using any 3rd party site.
