It's possible that they have an identical or similar box they do not have the key for and want to try duplicating yours without buying the box.

Then they are not a very clever scammer.  Those adept at such would just make the purchase without a peep, and then beat the $$ out of you with their scamming actions.

In my opinion (worth nothing) if they were going to steal/copy your key they would just do it without hesitation/communication. Is this some sort of "universal " key?  One key fits all?

I would have just added a photo to the listing, and notified the potential buyer of that action.

My thoughts exactly. (Photographing the key from both sides seems a little pointless since you probably can't see any profile grooves clearly, and for a jewelry box, it's probably a flat stamped key anyway.)

Assuming that the interested buyer isn't asking for photos to be sent to an external email address (which would reveal yours in the process), you can attach photos to your eBay message reply without revealing any personal info. However, if you do decide to provide the requested photos (especially if more than one person is asking for the same details), I would just add the photos to the listing so that everyone can view them, and point the interested party there.

Just tell them you have already boxed up the item.  That is what I tell buyers who ask for additional photos of items that I don't feel like taking out for additional photos.

A buyer might ask an odd question to confirm that the seller is a) human and b) responsive to customers.
