Did you mean:

You have been chosen to participate in a paid eBay research study!

I got an email tonight from eBay Design Research Team <research@ebay.com> offering $25 to do a listing.

I am guessing its a spam to get my info as it was not in my Ebay messaging only in my email.  Anybody else get this?

It would be in messages if it was legit.  You can forward it to spoof@ebay.co

They will reply with an answer as to what it is.

That's not necessarily the case. Some eBay messages are sent only to your email but not your Messages folder; others can be sent to your Messages folder but not your email. If the Reply-To: address on that message was actually research@ebay.com, that is a genuine address under the ebay.com domain.

What was the gist of the message? Did they have a new listing form that they want you to try out?

I sent it to the spoof ebay group and will see what they say.  Here is a copy-paste of what it said

Thank you for being a valued eBay customer. We need your help to understand how we can improve the way you list items to sell on eBay.

You have been chosen to participate in this self-guided research study. We are asking sellers like you to list an item to sell on eBay, you’ll be asked to share your screen and comment throughout the listing process - the session will be recorded. Seeing you in action will help us understand what is working well and what we need to improve.

Here are the details:

  • Start date: Tuesday, May 2, 2023 - sessions begin. Space is limited, please complete at your earliest convenience.
  • End date: Friday, May 5, 2023 - the study will close at 5pm PDT.
  • Length: The time it takes for you to make a listing, plus a 5-minute survey.
  • Recordings of your listing process will be done using our research tool UserTesting. We only record for research purposes. We will not collect any confidential information. You will need to share your eBay ID and Seller Hub pages. Any personal information will be blurred out in the recording. The testing platform will ask you to install a browser plug-in.
  • Incentive: Virtual Visa reward code equivalent to $25 - only provided to participants who complete a listing on eBay and short survey using our research tool. Please give us 3-5 days to process your incentive after you have successfully completed this task.

IMPORTANT NOTE: Only click on the link below when you are ready to create and complete a listing on eBay - have your item and photos ready! Please be prepared to complete your listing in one sitting.

Fake! eBay would never comma-splice, it's just so unschooled.

Sure thing -- what could POSSIBLY go wrong with that?!?

There are "research" companies that sell their services to large corporations and pay participants.  I have participated in a few such research projects sponsored by Big Pharma.  Heck, I have been paid $200 for a 30 minute phone interview as well as having to answer a silly questionaire that resembled a questionaire like something out of an old Psychology Today mated with 16 Magazine.

I would just wait for the response from that Ebay spoof email link.  If Ebay doesn't reply in time then I would just pass.

I got the same email. It is from research@eBay.com, so it probably is legitimate. But for a measly $25 gift card, I'll pass. Now if it was for a 2-month rebate of my pro store subscription, I might think twice. And there is still the problem of basically letting eBay share and record my screen, Seller ID and Seller Hub, and installing a browser plug-in. I don't think so. I'll sit this one out.

If I trusted eBay in light of the addle-headed tinkering they've been doing the last few years, things would be different... I just came off of losing an entire two days modifying nearly 1000 listings while dealing with their EIS they forced on me last week. And there is the loss of over a week dealing with the recent Category and Item Specifics changes. I don't want to be a party to giving them any excuses to do further tinkering.

Cheers, Duffy

Legit or not, I wouldn't want them putting in a browser plug-in on my hardware.

It's legitimate. I've had several (now expired) though I haven't participated.

Research@ebay.com is the correct valid address.

You will only get boiler plate replies are not any more informative than the instant reply you get when you submit.

Of the last 58 messages I've forwarded, none received any reply other than the instant one that contains this "Thanks again for sending your report. Please note that you may not receive a personal response."

Still worth sending them in as they do take action if they are able.

Agree 100% no way in hell that is happening. To similar to common phishing scam by all those companies that call or message you that your computer has been infected with a virus but they can help you clean it up. Yea right.

For a $25 gift card? So not worth the risk.
