Why

I know I've posted this before and Ebay doesn't care. But why do they change things every

6 months? As soon as I get used to a new template or format Ebay changes it with out

fail. I'm getting so tired of it. If their was a better alternative I would have changed years ago.

Etsy won't let you opt out of shipping overseas so I'm at a loss. This is my only source of income

after having neck surgery so I just don't know what to do. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Re: Why

I have no suggestions but just noticed that the 'purchase history' has completely changed.  I hate too many changes too.

Re: Why

While change can be difficult for some to adjust to, change is actually a good thing. Everything changes, nothing stays the same anywhere. You just need to spend a little more time at the beginning to get used to a new format than you will be fine. Also realize the world is changing every day and will continue to do so, best to keep up. Best of luck to you....

Re: Why

Posting here is not posting directly to Ebay.  This is a Community that is member to member.  Both buyers and sellers.

There are many reasons why Ebay might change something.  Sometimes it is to improve the user experience, other times it may be to correct a problem, could be a requirement by the software, or an upgrade to the software will require certain changes, etc.

But at times I'm convinced it is just to annoy us.  I know that isn't true, but it sure seems that way.  The best example of this currently is the current changes to viewing someone else's feedback page.  OMG that is a hot mess.

Re: Why

THAT is the million dollar question 😄

I think there are several answers:

1- to keep the site up to date with current standards

2-people justifying their jobs

3-unintended consequences from intended changes

There is a long history of unnecessary changes, lack of testing as to how changes affect other functionality & keeping the site up to date b/c none of us would be happy if the site looked the same way it did in 1997, when I started.   Unfortunately, a lot of #1 is really #2 - let's make the screen more current, without adding any additional funcitonality & often removing functionality.  It goes against basic computing 101, make as FEW changes as possible to the UI (User Interface).  Constant changes without a legitimate cause only frustrate both buyers & sellers & a lot of buyers leave b/c things change all the time & they can't find what they need.

Re: Why

IMHO, more energy is wasted resisting change than just moving with it.  So my advice in this case is to just go with it.

Everything these days in web based UI is going mobile first, thats the that of it.  Software programming stacks being built are highly biased towards Mobile application now as that's what the worlds embraced.  There's been more smartphones sold than PC & Laptops combined since PC's came to be.  The technology that's marching is mobile and digital entertainment from a consumer point of view.

Sure eBay could create two UI's but then ya' have trust in that connecting devices are A: Outputting valid data and B: Many ways to screw w/ that, some as simple as running behind a proxy or things can appear all afoul.

I dont like using my smartphone towards much anything website based but that's just me, I'm ole' school that began with a Radio Shack TRS/80 when UI's were text menus, event driven code was pretty much something of embedded systems and wasn't even called that.  But the fact is mobile's place to be and the only prospect "Comer" to perhaps change that is the 3D headset technologies which is what Facebook is shooting for, "The Metaverse."  For anyone that's not used 3D headsets, well, it's just astonishing, amazing, awesome even.

As to listing, takes me far more time taking and cropping images than any other part of the process but that's just me.

Re: Why

@retro_entertainment_collectibles   Great points, but that doesn't help my approx 50% of buyers who still buy on the PC.   They buy into the everyone buys on their phones trope & it's simply untrue.  Now, depending on your category, it may be a high percentage, but also could be a low percentage.  Ebay skews older as it is & many categories have mostly PC buyers.

Ebay doesn't have to create a UI for the PC, they've had one for decades.  Most co's are capable of having both platforms & maximizing both platforms.   Not sure why eBay can't.

That said, my comments were based solely on the PC version, I rarely use the app for anything except occasionally to look up solds when I'm shopping.  I'm also very annoyed that they don't care to match up the little things between the PC & the App.  Those little things drive many users crazy.  Like the fact that they count number of sales differently & a whole host of other little irritating things like that, that are completely fixable, but my guess is that internal politics keep them from getting fixed.

Re: Why

@simply-the-best-for-you  I personally don't like shopping or much anything mobile but when it comes to the engineering I understand it as I am a software engineer.  I don't like the mobile app either, shopping wise it ought be much much more like Amazon standard pages.  Look something up, find it, show all offers ordered by condition, price with the addition of a single line descriptor towards description accuracy.

I understand a good bit of the issues facing eCommerce in general from both a future tech standpoint and that of manufacturers and Governments.  Right now for example yes there are still shoppers using PC's but the PC market beyond gaming PC's has been on a vast decline for years.  Even in business things are going thin client which will likely be the future of TV, that's the other target vs mobile, interactive TV.  Meta is counting on 3D Headset, I know developers at Meta (Facebook) and whilst Meta sort of denies it the fact is they are working with Amazon to revolutionize home entertainment and how the Internet is used.  They're forward vision is when someone has cable or satellite TV (Broadband) it literally comes with a wireless 3D headset and the timelines are trying be convergent with Internet Regulatory Legislation Globally.

We see eBay today, understandable... eBay however has to chart the future full of knowns and unknowns.

Who knows for sure?

Outside looking in it appears the company is attempting transition from what was/is to what will be trying not shed heaps of market share.
