Why would a seller CHOOSE not to accept PayPal?

I bought some ebay shipping supplies a few weeks ago.  I was so surprised to see that they no longer accept PayPal.

Since then I've noticed that some sellers accept PayPal and some don't, in which case i just use my PayPal Master Card.

If given a choice, why would a seller opt out of accepting PayPal and risk possibly losing a sale?  What would be the advantage of not accepting PayPal?

Seller of the supplies is in "managed payments".

@inhawaii

They signed up for managed payments.   Right now fees are 2.7% vs 2,9% for PayPal .  I am holding off until it's mandatory due to other fees and sales payment logistics

If the seller does not have paypal listed as a payment option on the listing then they are using ebay's new payment processor Adyen. Adyen is a safe multi-billion dollar company serving many large e-commerce sites including Netflix.

You will pay using a debit or credit card and the seller will not see your information. Payment will be just like on other major internet sites.

Paypal will be added back in as an option as the switch over gets further along. Right now only a small % of sellers do not accept paypal.

You can also now use Google pay if you like to pay using that option.

Some did not knowingly make that choice.

Some sellers ended up in Manage Payments without realizing they could not accept PayPal, and once they ewnrolled there was no way to opt out.

Ebay is bringing back Pay Pal so your supplier should have it now or soon. I just received PP back today. A lot of people were fuming about losing the PP so I guess that's why they brought it back.

another reason could be because paypal accepts disputes up to 6mos after sometimes longer.  but that still doesn't make much sense for someone to do that

I accept PayPal and I'm not in eBay's Managed Payments system, but today buyers are messaging me saying that they can't pay with PayPal.

Did eBay change something?

Why would a seller CHOOSE not to accept PayPal?

Every now and then sellers post about this.

It's been going on -occasionally- for years.

The first answer is always: "Do you have Blocked Payments from overseas?" which is fairly common, since overseas payments are charged 4.7% PP fee instead of 2.9%.

BTW- I understand that the 2.7% rate on Managed Payments is offset by a 30 cent charge on every sale. So if you got a PP payment on ten $10 sales, you would be charged 30 c +2.9% or $3.10.

But if it were ten $10 sales Managed payments would charge 10x30c=$3.00 plus 2,7% of $100= $2.7 0 for a total of $5.70 in Managed Payment fees.

Prove me wrong?

I didn't!!!

I opted IN to managed payments NOT realizing it would cost me the Paypal relationship!

And the reason I opted IN is because like with everything else it's going to become mandatory one day anyway, so no sense in pretending otherwise but I had no idea that opting IN to managed payments would mean forfeiting Paypal as a payment method.

Oh, and...

I can't opt OUT!!!

No seriously, I can't.

Once IN you can't get OUT.

Ebay has been rolling out PP to be accepted in MP.  And as others have told you the Ebay seller of the Ebay shipping supplies is in MP but had not yet been updated to be able to accept PP.  Last year Ebay said that they would have PP available to buyers in MP by the summer of 2019.

One of the few times Ebay was really ahead of schedule.  They started rolling out PP to MP in early Spring.  And if it isn't already available for everyone in MP, it is only days away.

For the supplier of Ebay shipping supplies THEY NOW ACCEPT PP.

No, but PayPal did. Borderline possible that it is due to the PayPal Cash Account thing, but that was news 60 days ago.

Maybe that somehow affects eBay checkout even though the above only involves ability to use a PayPal balance, not the ability to fund through PayPal using a bank account or credit card.

Or it's just another eBay payment glitch.

I think it is Paypal that made some kind of change?  All buyers do here is click a button then paypal takes over.

There is no reason for them to not know before they sign up.  It is right in the agreement terms.

I didn't sign up for Adyen. I only buy now on ebay. No more selling. Paypal is a known factor. They release my money within a day. I haven't had any disputes since I started selling online as a "kitchen table" seller. Ironically, that's what I was on ebay, but they made it hard (impossible) for us to set our own policies. Corporate clog I will never be.
