Before recently, I would get eBay email notifications that an item was ready to ship and there was a button on the bottom of that email that allowed me to enter the tracking information. Then about a week or two ago, eBay changed that notification and there is no button to add tracking information. Why on Earth would eBay do this??? It's only purpose is to increase the number of steps to enter a tracking number & shipper.
And while on notification, if a customer places an order for eg., three items, there would be 3 ready-to-send email notifications. Since we run a webstore in addition to selling on eBay, we fill orders in the order in which they arrive in our mailbox. This would often result in one order being shipping in different containers, and then the customer would complain that they did not get a shipping discount for combined shipping & handling. Why can't eBay send one ready-to-ship email notification for each ORDER, not individual items in a single order, and include the tracking button in that email?
eBay claimed that their implementation of the Amazon system (aka Managed Payments) would make our lives simplier, but I haven't seen it yet. There is no reason on Earth that eBay can not send one ready-to-ship email notification for a multi-item ORDER and include the Add Tracking Information button back to that email.

Are you purchasing the shipping labels through the ebay system or via some other website? If you purchase the shipping label directly throught the ebay system, the system automatically enters the tracking number & sends out the shipping notification.

Sorry, I thought it was obvious - I purchase my shipping labels through another venue, not eBay.

Maybe Ebay prefers you purchase labels from them.

No answer to the "why".........
But based on a number of posts......depending on emails for anything is taking a big chance......as they can be lost or perhaps never sent........ Checking Seller Hub at least once a day is a far better habit to get into.........

True, an email may be lost in transit, so checking the seller hub once a day may be a good idea. Having to check the seller hub for each individual sale is not.

Checking the Seller Hub is easy and likely more efficient than the way you have been doing it as you will be able to see if you have a buyer with multiple items.
It is easy to record tracking numbers in the Seller Hub too.

Perhaps the purpose is to "train" sellers to avoid clicking links in emails because of the possibility of it being a forged email with a malicious link intended to phish a seller's eBay password.

IDK. I don't go by notifications, so have no idea where you saw this. BUT, all you have to do is add the tracking number from Seller Hub. Takes 2 seconds. If you're referring to the emails, eBay has changed those AT LEAST 6 times in the last few years. I would never rely on those.
On your Orders screen, click the down arrow & select Add Tracking Number & you can also mark it as Shipped from there.
