Why no one should source electronics from China...

My partner is building a sensor to detect bio signs, and we needed a wireless charge pad. He bought a box of them from a seller in China (not sure if it was on here, or another site). I thought this was good, and they're a few dollars each, what can go wrong? It's a pretty simple design.

I decided to test one a bit and charge my phone on it. For a while, so far so good, I charged it every day. I think I've been doing that for about 2 or 3 months now.

Tonight my wireless charge pad started to melt, and I burnt my fingers touching it. This is a low power device that's not supposed to have enough current running through it to be a fire hazard. (My partner is an engineer and told me wireless charge pads should be relatively safe). But if it's melting the plastic while charging my phone...

So basically don't source cheap electronics there. (I'm sure most of you already know, but I thought this was a story worth telling).

Yes, your lone experience with one defective product should be the rule.

Tell us what's not made in China these days?

Made in China and sourced from China is what I'm talking about. As in cheap electronics.

Not stuff sold in USA/Canada that was made in China and gone through several modes of inspection before it gets here. Stuff in Canada is CSA approved (basically safe to use), and I'm sure in the US you have your own certification for electronics. Things bought online that are shipped here from China are not certified for use in North America.

Re: Why no one should source electronics from China...

...if products from China are not certified to use then why our governments allowed them to freely imported regardless reliabilities...?

...should our governments ban these China stuffs, or blocking peoples from making purchase directly from China, or charging their selling companies fines or fees for each sales transaction they made to our buyers in North America...?

...oh, and definitely no "free shipping" to USA as it has been a burden for the USPS...

...it's all about the "dollar sign"...the power of "money talk"...

Re: Why no one should source electronics from China...

Items sourced from China by big box retailers often have little to no inspection.

Very few of these items have any type of certification such as Underwriter Laboratories.

In some cases the entity supposedly certifying the item is bogus.

In some cases the entity is being paid, such as the old Good House Keeping seal.

For a time Dollar Tree was selling USB cables that had text on the back that said you should wash your hands after handing them as they contains trace amounts of lead.

"Engineer" is meaningless. Bill Nye the Fake Science Guy, who pretends to be scientist, only has a engineering degree yet he repeatedly lies about various subjects to push his Leftist agenda. While at Boeing, Nye spent almost all his time making training videos, and only helped to create a single landing assembly. If Nye is so smart how come he didn't create the landing gear on his own, patent it, and license it to manufacturers around the world?

Paperwork from a estate I previously purchased indicated that the deceased person's son was a partner in a large international firm that created large civil works such as road systems and projects for companies such as skyscrapers. He went to college for 4 years, worked for the firm 4 years and went back to college for another 4 years and then returned to the firm. Even with all that education and experience it does not make him a  expert in other fields as Bill Nye wants you to believe.

Products from China can easily kill, harm you, and spy on you since under Chinese law all companies and citizens must cooperate with Chinese intelligence and are openly encouraged to spy and steal for the greater good of the Communist Party.

You will of course be able to cite specific examples as well as explain why any of that has anything to do with the topic here...? I think its safe to say that when you have a Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering from Cornell then you have a pretty good interest in many areas of science beyond ME alone.

Your question suggests that you have absolutely no idea how design and engineering processes work.

And yet China is practically the sole manufacturer and supplier of many of our everyday electronics. You might want to carefully examine all the items you own and discard any or all of those made in China. They are spying on you through your wireless charger for example. Alexa is listening to you as well and files daily reports on you to her Chinese masters. I know that you would never dream of owning an Alexa device but your neighbors do and their Alexa is hearing what they say about you.

Re: Why no one should source electronics from China...

I have been known to...

Source items, then be the quality control, by inspecting and testing each and every one...
Then reselling it for a profit that includes the time and effort I spent QC'ing the items.

And returning those that don't work for a refund.

Re-source as needed.

Lo and Behold, before too long the quality of the sourced items started to improve!
Granted, so did the price.
