Why is "make offer" a default when posting fixed price?

Is this a bug, or some sketchy eBay dealio? Every time I post a fixed price item, I've noticed "make offer" is selected even though there was never an option for it given. Also, I can't disable "make offer" online, but I can only when I use the eBay phone app. Any ideas? Is there some super secret interface I should be using that allows me to make all selling decisions myself?

It's probably a glitch here to stay - just mark a penny less than the total for those offers you'll take and less than .02 those you will decline - if you can't revise after the listing is up. Then it will default the buyers to your decline screen and you will not be bothered by Buy It Now stuff. We can complain, but since we are noise to them - the "glitch" is trying to "help" you get rid of items rather then get your top dollar. Welcome to the NEW Ebay.

@csan2c This is defaulted on the new version of the quick listing tool.

You can switch to the advanced tool by clicking on 'save and exit’ at the bottom of the quick listing tool and then you will see 'advanced form' on the top right of the new page.

From the advanced tool you can adjust duration, best offer, and plenty of other options not available with the new quick tool.

It's one of their most common glitches.  I've found that if you cannot uncheck the box, continue with the listing anyway and post it.  Then, go back and edit the listing, and you chould be able to uncheck that box.  BTW, it's not just mobile.  I only list on my laptop and it does the same thing.

Ugh, ok, I'll need to find advanced from now on. Ugh.

I'm still listing on the old TurboLister program until it's killed off, and the glitch hit me awhile ago.  I NEVER list with Best Offer.  Had to check every single listing, sigh, and go in and uncheck that BO box in those that had been affected.  Turned out it was happening during relists.  Yeah, just a glitch.  Smiley Mad

Another thing I notice is, when I turn off best offer with the phone app, it eventually turns back on. I just turned it off yet again.

Re: Why is "make offer" a default when posting fixed price?

eBay in its infinite wisdom has decided that despite what you think, you really want to receive offers to sell your item below what you're asking for it.  This is similar to the way they decided that they know better than the buyer what they want to buy.  I believe they call that "Best Match."

Of course, they seem to have reversed their previously held position that if a seller doesn't include the "Make Offer" option he isn't interested in receiving them and to make an offer is an attempt to engage in an off-eBay transaction.  However, they seem also to be sending out warnings about engaging in off site transactions.  Talk about sending mixed signals!

I complained to eBay about getting offers when I never ticked any "make offer" box in the first place. At least they have a feedback method, so I'll just keep using it.
