Why is eBay falling out?

Well, all sellers know this is the eBay going down. Why? I sell something at $30. I received $ 12.
wow. Interesting since other platforms don’t do it. I received also a note because of my selling, well you want to me to put on more selling things? That’s why I received a email telling me my account will be deleted?

Why is eBay falling out?

In order to answer your question, we would need to have more details.

You sold it for $30.  How much was shipping? Was there state sales tax?

Did you add any enhancements?

Hopefully for your sake you figure out what to do because no one who knows the price structure ever only gets $12 out of $30.

Was this the phone bag? I'm guessing you were expecting ebay or someone to reimburse that free shipping. It's not actually free just because you offer it. USPS ground (economy) is not really economical, so I'd guess that after shipping and fees, $12 would be about right.

I am guessing about $13.50 of that is what you spent to ship the item.

That's not ebay's fault.

Shipping is one of your expenses. You need to consider all the fees and expenses when setting your price.

It’s not eBay’s fault that you gave away almost half the money by shipping for free.

Am I reading this right ? Did the OP really think shipping an item is free ?

Free Shipping is an advertising gimmick.

It means that you have put the cost of shipping into the asking price.

Which is cheaper? A $10 item with $5 shipping or a $15 item with Free Shipping? (There is no correct answer, some buyers like the low price, some like the Free Shipping.)

If you sold an item for $30 with Free Shipping and, as others have said, spent $13 of the $30 to ship, then all your other costs will come out of the remaining $17, including 10.2% of the selling price as FVF, 12% or so of the Internet (state) sales tax  and the selling price as the Managed Payments processing fee your costs for packaging and your procurement cost.

There is a pie chart which shows the breakdown (badly) on your Seller's Hub-> Performance.

You mean the phone bag that mentions it's a pre-order in the item description?

Yeah, no, you screwed up your math somewhere, because here is something that I just sold for $35 + shipping:

Why is eBay falling out?

Thanks for telling me.  I didn't know that as a seller. FYI - The last two years have been my best in over 21 years of selling on eBay. If you are finding it differently, I would highly recommend trying different items to sell.

I started out breaking open a piggy bank that my Dad had saved for me when I was 13. Soon after that, I got involved in setting up at local coin shows. Several years later I had my own show once a month having dealers pay me table rent. Then National shows, eBay, my own website to where I am today. Now over 6 figures in sales annually just on eBay. I can recall my girlfriend(wife now) and I would spend nights searching through bank bags of change.

My point is, I know many kids and adults that have taken the same path that I did and most have been extremely successful.  Some even making it their primary career. I would highly recommend "coins" to anyone wanting to take a try at a new business venture. They are EZ to ship for one thing.  You HAVE to start out small, rolling over your profits into bigger and better things, and before you know it you will have made your goal. Pick a specific area in coins.  World coins are an area of great potential in my opinion. Just look at the diversification of immigrants coming to the US.  All people want to connect to their roots. Start by attending some local or national shows. Join the ANA or local clubs. There are many dealers out there willing to help you get started for free.

Just my suggestions.  Have a great day!

I’m not surprised if this is true.

Why is eBay falling out?

I have seen a number of post by people that think just because they have free shipping on the listing, that eBay or other is going to pay it, not them out of the money received from the buyer.

You're selling stuff on ebay without having any clue how it works.

We will put an item up for $20. It will not sell. We will put the item up for $15 + 5 Shipping. It sells. Go figure.
