Why is Ebay putting BestOffer on my Auction?!!

Ebays' computer system changed my auctions to show a "Make Offer" option that I did not authorize and Ebay will not change this. It is my choice as a seller to decide how much I wish to put as a starting bid on my auctions. Ebay does not own my inventory and did not pay for it. To have to constantly have to go through every single auction of mine every single day to ensure that Ebay has not changed it is not right and I shouldn't have to do this at all.  Granted I have only been selling here since this past October and this is the first time this has happened.  The ONLY reason I knew that it occured is I got an offer on one of my auctions that still had six days to go.  WTH?!  An hour on the phone to Ebay to figure out how to get rid of it and then being told that "they can't change the system sorry for the inconvencience."  I have heard of this happening to Buy it Now listings not auctions.  Anyone else have this issue?

Not to mentione that the engine they use is terrible. I recently was looking for some RAM sticks for my pc. The person had a starting bid of $49 that had the Best Offer tag when that very same item consistently sells for over $100.

Why is Ebay putting BestOffer on my Auction?!!

Granted I sell vintage and antiques in which prices are up and down constantly.  I start my auctions mostly at $9.99 if they don't sell after a couple of times then I go to buy it now with what the current market is.  Some of the time I do add a make offer optionbut only if there is enough leeway in the profit.  I just am in shock that they are doing this to auctions now.  I was so mad that I actually told the csr on the phone that if Ebay wants to set my prices they can buy my inventory and sell it themselves.

Even more reason why this offer feature should not be present in certain categories.

Occasionally this happens to me, a listing mysteriously allows a best offer.  Easiest thing to do is simply ignore the offer and delete the e-mail notification.  I may be wrong, but I don't think ignoring best offers has any consequences.

I may be wrong too, but I think I read on other posts concerning this that it can irritate some potential buyers whose offers are rejected or ignored.

This "feature, " along with the discounted pricing they're trying to add to listings, should not be added to anyone's listing without their permission. There should be a way to globally opt in or opt out at the SELLER'S discretion, not eBay's.

Apparently now, if you sell here, your choice is sort of taken away.  Just be happy, the ebay managed marketplace does not accept offers on your behalf at this time.

The "best offer" option on an auction might have been a decent idea if the buyer making the offer was allowed to make an offer HIGHER than your opening bid, or you could counter offer in like manner.  Unfortunately, that is not the case and the offer/counter is tied to the opening bid amount.  Oh well.

Ignoring buyers is not a good idea, it's not their fault best offer is out there and a lot of them have no idea that the sellers may not want it there or that eBay is doing it, not the seller. Don't lose a potential customer because of eBay. I get these offers as well, including low ball offers so low I can't believe the person had the nerve to even go there. However, I always answer each one of them back and tell them either why I cannot accept their offer or I counter offer back to them. With a little personal note.

Almost every time so far, including the recent ridiculous low ball turned around and bought my item at the price I offered it to them. If they are asking, they are interested. It's a sale waiting, counter it or tell them you cannot. Customers are in the driver seat right now, there are more sellers than buyers, best I can tell, I may be wrong and will be quickly corrected 🙂

The buyer you ignore may become a repeat customer, which I LOVE. Invite them in to stay awhile, don't tell them to get off your sidewalk and go elsewhere, because they will and they won't come back next time you have something they want to buy. I know I will never buy from the guy who couldn't be bothered to answer my question. A month later, he still has it. And he will next month most likely too. Guess he doesn't need my money. Probably wondering why no one is buying his item too.

Don't blow off customers. Talk to them. It is part of being in business. I quite enjoy it actually, made some fun pals here.

I recently wrote to a fellow seller who has a lot of an item I really really want. However, his pictures are not good enough for me to pay his nearly $200 asking price. I wrote and asked a couple of questions about the lot. No answer. A month has gone by, he has resisted it, and still only one photo and high price. Had he written me back, he probably would have sold it. His feedback is good. But he ignored me. Guess what? No sale for him.

This weekend after several hours on the phone with eBay I figured out they are doing it to my free listings,  I accidently went over my free listings by 1 and that item has not changed to BEST OFFER.   Each day about 10 of my free listings changed to accept best offers.

This happened to me a couple of months ago. I read somewhere here to call and request this option be removed, which I did. No longer getting interference from Ebay. Try calling again to get a different rep and if they won't help you, ask for a supervisor...that usually moves things along. Good luck!
