There is really nothing to “MANAGE” here… Before, when I had funds on my PayPal from selling on eBay I could use the same money to buy something back on eBay. Now they transfer money to your bank account with usual delays that could take up to 5 to 7 business days depending on weekends or holidays in your country!! Why eBay did it this way having for more than 20 years reliable instant PayPal payment system which was good for the sellers? Did they do in favor of sellers? I don’t think so… It’s getting worse and worse for the sellers really and eBay doesn’t care on the seller’s opinion! This happens when someone has a monopoly and all you can do is suck it up.

Managed Payments may benefit the seller.
Let's say someone wants to buy your item, but doesn't have a Paypal account. In the old days, years of Paypal as the only form of payment accepted on eBay, your buyer would not have bought from you & went elsewhere. Now, with Managed Payments, there are many more options for payment available to your buyer. So, they will buy, using their favorite way to pay, now that eBay offers a choice.
No MP is not perfect, maybe it is a break even for the seller as an advantage, but it may bring more buyers, & make things easier for them.

They did it because Pay Pal will no longer be processing payments for Ebay.
They had to find another payment processor so we could be paid.

Yes - the number of people using apple pay and google pay are quickly increasing, and I'm hoping MP gets more payment methods on board - sellers who say they 'don't care' about other payment methods and just want paypal for their own convenience are shooting themselves in the foot, really.

Because they didn't want to call it; Mismanaged Payments..
LOL
They had to name it something.
eBay is now managing your payments via Adyen the contract with Paypal is done.

I liked "mangled payments", except it has actually gone really smoothly for me.

Thank you for your input! What is getting easier for buyers is getting more complicated for sellers... eBay revenue and profit based on the interest what sellers sell on eBay so eBay should take in consideration also what is more convenient for sellers also, not only for buyers. My discussion topic here from seller’s perspective, not from the buyer.

You had papal for 20 years?
20 Years ago I was accepting checks an money orders.
Times changed, time to adapt, like we did when paypal came to town.

So what's the reason to go to this disadvantage after 20 years and wait now for your payouts for 5-7 business day instead of having it immediately? Regress!

Payments have never been processed instantly - it's just that Paypal was part of eBay and basically fronted us the money as soon as the payment method was approved rather than waiting 2 or so days while the payment was actually processed. Other payment processors don't do that and have never done that. We had our nice little hand-hold with Paypal, but now we're being treated like every other merchant.
ETA: Yes, it is more complicated for sellers these days, but etailing has gone through generations of change in the last 20 or so years and nothing stays the same.

For me it has been the best place I can find to sell what I sell. I'm able to have a consistent payment from my sales. It has always kept me from the need to get a "2nd job" I can turn it off and on when I need. Step it up when I need more money. I don't wait 7 days ever for a payout. I sell it and three days later it's in my bank. Weekends take longer. However, at my "real" job I get paid bi-weekly. So I wait 14 days to get paid in the real world and that just seems acceptable.
I bought a brand new camper in 2019, ebay sales makes that payment like clock work.
I'm not saying paypal wasn't good. It is just this is the change that you need to adapt to to keep going. It's not hard for me. In fact somethings are a lot more easier now than before. No monthly invoice is a big benefit to me. The fact that ebay collects the sales tax and I don't have to mess with that, BIG win for me! And then before my money went into paypal then I transferred it into my bank for a charge, now it is deposited directly into the account that pays my camper, and that payment is set up on auto. So like I said like clock work, it works.

Why manged payment name: because they manage the payment processing which most seller are not set up to do.
It also sounded cool to some PR person.......

It has nothing to do with you at all. Ebay is a company and as with any company they found someone else to "manage" their payments. Sorry but if you do not keep enough money in your bank account for purchases you will just have to wait the 5 days to buy something. Unfortunately nothing is instant in life. I work a day job and have to wait 2 weeks before I can buy something.

Because the other names they tried to use were probably already trademarked.
