Why does eBay double dip

I sold something for $700. $30 shipping

the sum I got from eBay was $617. True buyer paid the shipping. The $30. Now I have to ship the item but from my $617 I have to pay to ship the item. Wasn’t the $30 supposed to cover that? Why do I have to pay shipping from my earnings when the buyer already paid?

The shipping is not in the $113.  The $113 includes eBays Fees (one fee that includes transaction fees plus their commission) on the $700 + $30 + Taxes (eBay charges you the fee on taxes, but takes the actual tax paid out to pay directly to the state).

If you list your orders and click on the order, click on see payment details, click on view you will see the breakdown of all you should be able to account for all involved financial details related to the order.

they buyer pays you for shipping, and of course you have to purchase shipping with that,

Re: Why does eBay double dip

The $617 is what is left of your $Item + $shipping after eBay deducted their fees. The shipping the buyer paid you is included in the $617 (minus fees).

You need to purchase the shipping from the $617 because that amount includes the shipping paid (after fees).

You are allowed to charge whatever you want to the buyer for shipping.  If you use eBay calculated shipping, buyers are normally charged full retail. When you go purchase actual postage from eBay you normally get a slight discount that may offset the money eBay took from the postage charged to the customer in fees.

The eBay fee on a $700 item with $30 charged shipping in the fitness category is about $110 (+/- depending on tax amount) so that is the correct amount deducted.

Re: Why does eBay double dip

I understand that. If I ship the item from the $617 I lose $30 from my pocket. How much did eBay make off of $730? It’s not like eBay took $100 from the $700 and left me with $30 to pay for the shipping. They took $113. From $730   And in that $113 is the shipping. They made their money. Now whatever is leftover the $617 I have to pay out of that to ship the item. I don’t have $617 plus $30 to ship. I have 617 minus whatever it costs to ship.

Re: Why does eBay double dip

The shipping was taken out of your original $730 the buyer paid. From the numbers you showed it looks like you actually only paid $19 shipping but charged your buyer $30 ?

The $617 was your total payout from Ebay to do what you want with. $730 - $94 fees = $636 - $19 shipping = $617

Re: Why does eBay double dip

I haven’t shipped the item yet. The $617 is on hold until I ship the item and they receive it. If I use the eBay shipping method I get paid once they receive the item plus four days because I’m a new seller. So out hasn’t been paid yet. And it’s heavy and they don’t live in America so picture how much it’s going to cost. They will deduct from the $617 if I create a label from ebay. Could be $25 could be $30. Could be $50. The point is that as soon as I create the label from eBay they deduct it from the $617 leftover

Re: Why does eBay double dip

This is too complicated. I’ve been trying to sell on eBay for a while now. From $700 I’m only earning $570 after I ship the  item.   I don’t even make back what the item I’m selling actually cost me. If only the buyers knew how much we actually make. They would stop harassing us for discounts.

I can picture that. I can also picture that the fees are not a big surprise for the seller. If you left yourself short it is your fault. Ship.

You should use an online eBay calculator before you list and sell something. Complaining about it after, or it coming as a shock after should not happen if you educate yourself beforehand.

Re: Why does eBay double dip

I asked a question about the sale. If you read what I wrote I am sort of trying to educate myself. That’s what questions are for. For education.

I understand and I'm not trying to be argumentative here, but if I sell a $700 item, I'm for **bleep** sure going to look up fees, how it works, shipping, etc. BEFORE listing it.

How is this reply not taken down by the mods ? There is no need to curse. Maybe you should cool it and go find someone else to harass. I got the answer I was looking for.
