And someone in the household ordered something w/o permission - kids/teens/ adults still living at home are sneaky some times too.

If I haven't shipped the item yet, I don't have a problem cancelling an order. Most of the time, when I get a request to cancel, it's within just a few minutes of their order. Sometimes I even get the request to cancel BEFORE I get the notification that I've sold an item. I try to respond right away because I know there's someone on the other end "freaking out" and hoping it's not to late to cancel.
If I've already shipped it, I can't cancel it.
If I've already created a label but still have the package, I will cancel it, but it DOES INVOLVE a little bit of work for me because I've already printed the packing slip, packed the item, printed a shipping label and sealed the box. Then it has to be unboxed, the packing slip removed, and the shipping label voided (plus getting money back on voided shipping labels can take a while). That doesn't happen very often, fortunately.

I've requested to cancel an order before, and I don't think it's so unusual as to wonder why it happens.
In my case, it was a tool I realized I already had in the garage just a few minutes after placing the order.
The seller canceled it for me because he had not yet shipped.
This whole thread is much ado about nothing, IMO, based on a histrionic buyer.

I don't think that's good advice.
A seller's attempt to "punish" the buyer by waiting for funds to transfer before accepting the cancellation request will come back to bite the seller with a late shipping ding.
