Why do buyers think they can just file an INR and eBay will refund their money (when delivered)?

So I had the one from a few weeks ago that was ruled in my favour for $255.00 because it showed delivered.

I got two more today, but they came as messages. One was from the United Kingdom asking when she was going to get her coin, but she got it July 5 as per tracking. Chit Chats Express portal shows me it was delivered, even though I hadn't uploaded tracking to the item. (Chit Chats system is confusing on international buyers and most people are honest, so I never worried too much. I use USPS direct to their country on expensive stuff).

The other one came on a $20 coin. He's telling me he was supposed to get it today because tracking shows delivered to the mailbox, but he says he doesn't have it. (Well this is possible). He said he's going to inform eBay he doesn't have his coin so he can get a refund. I replied to this by telling him what I'd do to help him get his package and see if it was misdelivered (and if there's proof it's misdelivered, in many cases I will refund the buyer as a courtesy, even though it's not my fault, and I would win an INR). I suggested he wait for me to try and help him before notifying eBay. I suggested he contact me tomorrow night if he still doesn't have it, because sometimes things are delivered a day later. (Really, anything is possible... I won't rule anything out when trying to find out what happened to a package).

Or the $20 coin will just turn up tomorrow because it's difficult to scam me on policies I know about... people can still scam me, but an INR on a delivered item is not one of those instances where it will happen.

If the buyer proves it was misdelivered then you would lose an item not received claim on appeal.

With your history and FB it is unusual, but I guess some just think it is worth it to try it on.

Or they are completely ditzy and have lost track of what is coming from where LOL

That's why I'm opening the package search request to investigate what happened to it. The one from  yesterday is not big money, but I'm not going to refund someone on their say so that the mailman didn't put it in their mailbox when tracking shows they did.

In this case, it's possible it really was not delivered correctly... but I need to do my due diligence in all cases so I can make the right decisions.

Because they've successfully done it before.

Because ebay ALWAYS sides with the buyer. They do not care about sellers. So you can be ripped off over and over, even with proof, and they will side with the buyer. Might as well get used to it if you're going to stick around. Why anyone does is beyond me.

I spell the American way in some of my listings... depends if the medallion is a USA one, or a Canadian one. It kind of has to be what people will search for.

They don't, actually. Before they started taking pictures of deliveries, my friend had an Amazon order that said was delivered but wasn't at her door. Amazon told her tough cookies, it was delivered, so they wouldn't replace it.

The guy across the street five houses down must be pretty thankful. I got his package, brought it in, put it on the table, left it there for a while, went to open it and realized it wasn't address to me or my house. I caught that before I cut into it and walked it over to his house. I get packages from Amazon all the time, so I wouldn't have assumed it wasn't for me if it was in front of my door.

I work at home, so I try to arrange to be home when deliveries happen and monitor the expensive ones very carefully.

I have an update on one of these INR situations...

This morning at 8am, the buyer's post office emailed me to tell me they would look into it.

At 10:30 they called me to ask for more information about what was going on (because the package shows delivered).

At 11:30 the buyer messaged me to tell me his package had just arrived. He was informed it was misdelivered and thrown into the outgoing mail which is why it reached him 2 days later (and his post office was aware of the situation by this time).

At 2:30 his post office emailed me to tell me they fixed the problem and apologized. (That suggests to me they did mess up, and the buyer is correct).

So the buyer thanks me for my customer service in helping him track down his package and leaves me similarly written feedback. (Imagine if I didn't look into this, I would be an unhelpful unsympathetic seller). So I say take buyers at their word and look into their concerns. Having it happen once that my thoughts were not correct is enough for me to look into this every time it comes up.

Oh and on top of it all, the buyer loves his coin and wants to hear from me if I get anything else from that country.

Yea. item not received scam. I do meet a lot on other platforms. They barely happened to me on eBay. And usually I can contact USPS for the package research on their site. If it is true a mis-delivery, usually the item shown up within a week.
