Low demand and cost prohibitive.

That's the official line.

IT was a matter of certain size boxes were costing ebay too much money to give away.

@lookng2015 I don't think the demand was all that too low, quite posssibly the opposite.

Re: Why did the 10x10x10 eBay Boxes Disappear?

eBay may have done this at the request of the Post Office Union.

Much of the world  (those countries that know how to measure) measure boxes  among other things  by length x width x height as in three number Cartesian coordinates that are  X ,Y, Z in positive or negative  numbers depending on the designers chosen X= 0, Y =0, Z = 0 nodes.

The Post Office site wants box size entered  by length, height and width That would be X, Z, Y.  How clerks enter those numbers is known to even those employees who have over 20 years of service (service? un huh) and yet can still can only type with one finger.

One suggestion by a union clerk was to issue rubber tape measures but that suggestion was rejected and being too costly as most of the rubber tapes would be nicked by employees using them at home for certain body measurements.

To help postal clerks end the confusion brought on by trying to figure out 10  x 10 x 10 boxes as to just how to enter those identical numbers into the computers where X, Y and Z  vs. X, Z, and Y could be misleading.

The best approach was to tell eBay to stop offering this particularly confusing size.

Simple huh?

I'd guess that anything going in that size box will be over 1 lb shipping weight, which means Priority Mail.
Post Office has FREE 12x12x8 Priority Mail boxes...delivered FREE.

I believe that is the one they called the Cube.  It has been said that they were not popular and costly.  However, there have been posts on the Board and in Chat, wanting the Cube back, so apparently they were popular with some people, who felt strongly enough about them to bring them up.

Get what you can while you can.  At this rate they will have no boxes pretty soon.   There were 5 sizes at the beginning of the month.  Now there's 4.   How long do you think before there're 3?

HERE IS WHAT EBAY USES AS AN  ENTICEMENT TO GET SELLERS TO SIGH UP FOR DIFFERENT LEVELS OF STORES

Great Value in Every Stores Subscription Package

In the promotion, it says 10+ sizes of boxes and includes a picture of boxes with 1 being the cube shape.

picture clearly shows square box.JPG

ebay only has 4 sizes available

ebay has only 4 size boxes and tells store subscribers it has 10+.JPG

If that were the case, you shouldn't be allowed to ship a "cube" of any size ...

[Paraphrased ... over 1 lb = Priority Mail. USPS offers #7 box]

1 lb can go Parcel Select, Media Mail (if it qualifies), First Class International

None of those can use a Priority Mail Printed Box

It can also go UPS, FedEx and DHL ...

Or Canada Post, or any other international post that can't use a PM Box.

To both of you:

The USPS (or any other carrier) had NOTHING to do with this.

Please stop with these theories.

Well I'm using one of my few remaining 10 inchers this morning and if I'd known they were going to pull them I would certainly have stockpiled a few more orders worth.

I have a stash.  Are they collectibles now?  Can I sell them for a ridiculously high price or should I hold on and hope their value goes up.

Not totally false advertising as they still do have an 8" cube.

Re: Why did the 10x10x10 eBay Boxes Disappear?

I had no problem using 1 finger to enter a 1, and a 0, or any other #'s three times to make the entries 🙂

Pick a finger.

We had a cloth tape measure (108 inches long) from olden days, and  a pull out tape measure or two handy.  No one was taking them home.

L is the determining factor in most instances, with the W, and H being doubled to determine to sutibility for shipping, and the charges, so X, Y, Z really did not get a different result than X, Z, Y.  Exception on the width vs height does factor in on letters, and flats to determine if they are machinable.
