Why Would the "Views" Count Go to Zero on Many of My Active Items?

Well.. it's been 10 days without a sale now.  But... I had some hope for this weekend with my auctions ending.  The number of "Views" started picking up nicely Wednesday morning after being almost non-existent for days.  I kept track of how many views per page.  Now (Thursday night) I clicked up my listings and several items that had views showing... now show none.  A few items that had 3-4 views maybe have 1 (if any).   My usual 7-10 "Watchers" is holding at 3.    Any idea on what's going on?

View counts were recently changed from lifetime to reflect only the past 30 days. So if on day 29 you had 3-4 views then 2 days later they will fall past 30 days and the count reverts to zero.

OK... I can understand that.   Some of the "Views" only showed up on Wednesday (for the first time) and were gone today.  Several of the items listed have only been up for a week or two though.    It's all getting discouraging. Maybe if the economy ever comes back...

Perhaps you have watchers confused with viewers.  A buyer can watch an item then suddenly stop watching an item, you would see the watch count decrease by one or go to zero if there was only one watcher.
View counts linger for 30 days then return to zero.
Personally, I prefer buyers to viewers and watchers.

You have 49 followers, which is more than likely where your watchers are coming from.  What you need is both followers and fresh, new buyers.  The issue is you have to pay extra promoted listings % to get those fresh, new eyes.

You better hurry, because on the 30th of this month, promoting willy nilly, Ebay will take promoted listings fees on what they deem halo sales.  These are fees garned on promoted listings whereby a buyer revisits your store within a 30 day window, makes a subsequent purchase of one your promoted items.

No doubt a ploy to sack your followers pockets, ergo your pockets...the one area allowing many sellers to remain afloat.

If you choose to not promote...we know where that's headed.

It doesn't help that the economy is in turmoil, but, regarding these issues, we're all on the same playing field.

@richard1rst

Here’s something interesting I thought I would share. I can actually pull-up views for the past year on some of my listings. 12A0AADF-82A8-4928-B871-0099D5C7D4BB.jpeg

No... I don't have Views and Watchers confused.

I understand about the 30 days "view count" removal and the "Watcher" fluctuation.   It makes sense.

However... the items with the "disappearing views" include a number of items I listed on March 19th.  Some for the first time.  This includes sheet music, CDs, magazines... probably about 15-20 different items.

So... the View count has become meaningless.

Yeah... I also prefer buyers to viewers and watchers.  Even just a handful would be nice!

Thanks for all responses.

W.

Hey there, hi there,

Some people just don't check how long you've been selling and respond like you're a newbie and in your diapers. LOL!  Of course you know watchers vs views, you've been on ebay since 1998.  I've too have noticed some views were disappearing on some listings. Hmm

I've also noticed a sudden decrease in sales, views, and even watchers since around the middle of last month or so.  Like the faucet was turned to drip drip drip... very slow drips, like a drip per minute. Haha!

Me thinks all the "what were you thinking" changes, like hiding (50/50 chance it happens) the DESCRIPTION until you click show more.  More clicks to navigate to the feedback pages, purchase history, etc, etc. is a factor and a turn off for both buyers and sellers.  Plus ME thinks some shenanigans are at work, especially with how HARD ebay is pushing their money making, cash cow promotion scheme for EBAY, not for the sellers on their platform.  Idk. 🤔

ALL the best to you 👍

I Know Exactly What You Are Talking About, It Happens A Lot!, Makes No Sense, & Makes You Wonder About Being Legit!, There Are Also Promoted Listings Not Showing As Being Promoted? & Getting Buried Even Though Their Promoted, Really Makes You Wonder Why Should I Pay For This So-Called Extra Service!

Why Would the "Views" Count Go to Zero on Many of My Active Items?

Ebays view counter is broken. I have been getting watchers on my items but 0 views on multiple occasions. Sometimes I get 4/5 watchers but the listing is still showing 0 views, happens on fresh listings started before the view count gets refreshed after the 30 day period. The thing is, this has a massive negative impact on the algorithms as Cassini thinks your listing a load of rubbish and pushes all of your other listing to page 10-20 of the search results where nobody is searching. I called eBay today to discuss, I gave a few examples of listings with 0 views, they checked on their side and those listing were showing as having over 10 views. So people are able to find the items and when they click on the listings to view, it doesn’t get picked up on the sellers end. What an absolute disaster, everyone that this is happening to needs to understand, THIS HAS A MASSIVE NEGATIVE EFFECT ON YOUR ALGORITHM AND IS DEFINITELY CAUSING SLOW SALES. EBay, if you read this, PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE GET THIS ISSUE RESOLVED. THIS GLITCH HAS BEEN ONGOING FOR NEARLY A YEAR EVER SINCE YOU RELEASED THE UPDATE TO STOP BOT TRAFFIC. YOU ARE A MULTI MILLION DOLLAR COMPANY, SURELY YOU CAN EMPLOY SOME DECENT IT PROFESSIONALS THAT CAN DO THEIR JOB PROPERLY.
