Why I'm leaving eBay: A Seller's Perspective

After much consideration, I have decided to end my relationship with eBay. As a seller, I take great care to ensure my listings are accurate and honest, but unfortunately, I have consistently felt mistreated on the platform. Despite my efforts to provide excellent customer service, eBay's buyers seem to have the upper hand, and it's nearly impossible to maintain a perfect rating here due to abusive behavior. The platform's dispute resolution process is heavily biased towards buyers, leaving sellers vulnerable to unwarranted claims and refunds, and often resulting in lost profits and damaged reputation.

In addition to these issues, eBay's commission fee of 25% is exorbitantly high compared to the industry standard of 5-12%, which further puts me at a competitive disadvantage and limits my ability to grow my business. Moreover, eBay's business model appears to be outdated and unsustainable in the face of growing competition from other e-commerce platforms. In order to maintain its position as a leader in e-commerce, eBay must restructure its entire business model and prioritize the needs of its sellers.

While eBay still has an edge in the auction market, this is not enough to sustain its business in the long run. eBay needs to acknowledge the concerns of its sellers and take concrete steps to address them. Until then, I will be exploring other platforms that offer fairer terms and conditions for sellers, and a more balanced and equitable dispute resolution system.

@voltagevillage

Almost  3 months later and you are still here and seem to be still selling "stuff".

Where is it stated the eBay selling  fees are 25?

Re: Why I'm leaving eBay: A Seller's Perspective

So because you say you're "wrapping up" your selling on this platform, you're not allowed to have a few listings still up in an attempt to liquidate your stock?

Re: Why I'm leaving eBay: A Seller's Perspective

I share your concerns. It has been a struggle just trying to contact eBay when you indeed have a problem created by eBay or the buyer and loose shipping cost and other expenses that I have actually been Loosing money on sales. I have been selling on eBay for 18 years and must say "I HAVE HAD IT WITH THEIR LOOSE LISTING CHARGES AND JUST TRYING TO CONTACT THEM" I also am leaving eBay. Too bad! It used to be Fun. When I owned my 1st new car a 1987 Buick Grand National and kept 32 years (59K only). I must have made 20 plus Great Friends who I met as my buyers of GN parts. Those were the Good days on eBay.

Best of Luck !               GrandNationalMike

Re: Why I'm leaving eBay: A Seller's Perspective

Here are your options for contacting Ebay Customer Service.  Please be aware that for social media CS, you send them a Private Message and briefly explain what your problem or issue is.  Feel free to leave your Name, address, phone number and/or your email address in this message.  It is private and secure and it may help to speed up the response for you.

https://twitter.com/askebay

https://www.facebook.com/eBay/

Your options will be on the left.  If you use the link below you can only get to the Automated Assistant or Chat box type AGENT in the box and hit enter. You will then get more options.  Not all options are available 24/7.  It will depend on staffing available.  So sometimes you can request a call back and sometimes you can't.  Sometimes you have the Chat option available and other times it won't me.  If it is important to you to use one of those options, just try back later.

If you use a cell phone or other mobile device, you may need to turn off your Spam filter so that Ebay can call you.

If you are a seller outside of the US or Canada, you will need to use the Chat Option.

Re: Why I'm leaving eBay: A Seller's Perspective

I left eBay today and I’m happy I finally made this decision. I agree with you completely, this platform is outdated and they allow buyers to ruin your reputation! I was on eBay for 6 years, i followed every single rule as a seller, provided high quality pictures with accurate description, offered free shipping and free returns. I was promoting my listings and I tried to communicate with every single buyer. I had many cases where I received empty boxes or something that was not mine. I asked eBay for help and they just ignored me. I have received negative feedback, which was removable under eBay’s policy and they just ignored it as well. I’m happy I made this decision and left this outdated platform!

Looks like you changed your mind. It's bee 4 months since your OP and you still have items listed and have in fact sold 44 items in the last 90 days. Pretty good for somebody who left.

They never do, which is why I don't understand these solemn manifestos. If I don't want to be on a site anymore, I just pack up and go - why make an issue out of it?

Possibly a form of free advertising? Post on the seller forum maybe some of the readers will take a look at your items and buy something??

Or feel sorry for them because they're here blubbering.

I mean, I'm not unsympathetic - eBay is byzantine in its ridiculous complication, but coming on here with departure announcements is just preaching to the choir.

Re: Why I'm leaving eBay: A Seller's Perspective

op have you thought about maybe diversifying where you sell? my grandma sells books, she sells them on ebay amazon and other websites, if an item doesnt sell well here, you can cancel a listing and take it somewhere else. some things sell better on ebay than amazon and vice versa...

Mistreatment.  Abuse.  Lost profits.  Damaged reputation.   Had I ever experienced even one of those things as an eBay seller, I would be long gone.  And yet, here you are still,  still selling on eBay, after suffering all that.   I do not know what to make of it.

Re: Why I'm leaving eBay: A Seller's Perspective

I had over 600 unique sales with amazing feedback. Then I got scammed by a seller and eBay sided with the scammer. eBay is bleeding sellers left and right... they don't care. Eventually, eBay will sell nothing but cheap Chinese crap... oh, wait... we are there.
