Where did all my customers go? I was selling and had a lot of views. Started my store and NOTHING

I need to understand why in the world was I getting 185+ hits on one item and then I start my store and sell similar item and get 7 views in 7 days???  I listed over 100 items and only 10 items have views in 7 days.  I am livid.  What changed in less then a week time?

Did you see the announcement about how eBay has updated its method of counting views on listings? They have removed bot visits, which before were considered active views. And the count will no longer be cumulative over time, but instead roll over and reset every 30 days. See link below for more information regarding page views.

This is a very hot topic over the last few weeks. Your prior view counts were a total view count since the launch of the listing....the current view count is only about views within the last 30 days.

Please take a look at this recent ebay announcement about view counts:

When i was selling  the first  2  or 3 views were bots scrubbing the new listing(s) to  is if i screwed something up or violated a policy or two.  These would show up almost immediately.

The question is ,why are the real views so low ? Why should they be this low when they are so much better on other sites? The items cannot sell if they are not being viewed!

What changed in less then a week time?

eBay recently changed how they count listing views.

Is this what you mean by "hits"?

When you say you were getting "185+ hits on one item", do you mean views per day? Per week? Per month? In total?

Other sites might also have inflated counts. The other sites are all definitely worse overall for selling. I have plenty of items that sell on the first 1-3 views.

No need to panic. Everyone starts over with the view count every month now. No one wants to see your views from years ago.

That is not true. I sell on another site that is doing really well for me. Lots of views and lots of sales. In fact I recently took a few things off Ebay that were not selling and they sold within a day on the other site. So it is probably dependent on what you are selling. All I know is for me Ebay is nothing like what it used to be.

For what you seem to specialize in you have two other choices that likely also work, maybe even more than that. But I just don't see any of the other sites as being viable for a 50 order a day operation without a narrow focus in a fashion type area, or making way less money. I could switch to a card specialty site and do the same amount of orders per day and make less money, but that wouldn't be in my best interest.

I miss seeing the cumulative views because when they reached a certain number, I revised the listing with a Sell Similar and changed price, title, pictures, etc.

Now instead of waiting for a cumulative view from months on end you can  now see if you have very little views you can still make those changes.

I don’t know. My listings still have views. To be honest, i don’t pay much heed to views and watchers, and have no expectations in that regard.

Low views on a listing could mean a number of things. Could be there is no interest in the item. Could be the strained economy and fearful consumers. Could be one’s pricing is off compared to competitors. There are so many possibilities. But i don’t think eBay is hiding listings on sellers in good standing.

It is really tough to compare sites since i am unfamiliar with how they count views  elsewhere. But if other sites produce good results for your business, and eBay doesn’t, it makes sense to abandon a non-productive site.
