Replacement or exchanges. Has anyone figured out how to do one of these. I sure don't see it as an option on a return?

Hi, i happened to notice this on the Advanced listing form today while doing a new listing. I didnt pay it much mind but there was a check box, i believe, to use to add that option to the listing. At what stage are you at now: are you listing an item, or attempting to exchange/replace an item on a current return?

I offer exchanges also but have not found a way to make it happen when the return process is started.
I usually explain to the buyer that if they just return the item with the return request open, eBay will force me to refund. So I ask them to close the return, then I send them the new exchange item along with a return label for the old one. This is clearly asking them to take a risk of not getting their new item, but I have a very good relationship with my buyers who are 99.99999% honest people, and I am honest with them. It has always worked out for me - they have gotten the item they want and I have gotten the old item back.
Clearly this is not the best possible situation, but it has worked for me so far. It would be a lot easier if eBay would just have a mechanism for the exchange.
