When the number available on an item reaches 0, does that end the listing ?

I don't want the lose the purchase history such as  "18 Sold"    if someone buys me out.   I can replenish the number available immediately, but there is always a risk of reaching 0  unless I show a very large number available.

I have been selling for about 15 years but have never tested this .

The "Out of stock" (OOS) option will do that for you.  If you check off OOS in your Site Preferences, then when the quantity of a Good Until Canceled listing reaches zero, it will stay active but it will be hidden from buyers until you revise the quantity to some amount greater than zero.

But if you have a large quantity available, why not just list the "very large number" available?

If you use the OOS (Out of Stock) option, the listing will remain active for 90 days with a qty of zero. BUT this will apply to ALL your listings so any you DO want to end you will have to end manually.

Because sometimes you don't WANT buyers to know how many you have. As they see that available qty slowly going down they're prompted to hit the buy button = )

That's why eBay has the option to only show the phrase "More than 10 available."

Sue, we don't want potential buyers to lose their sense of urgency.  But IMHO it's worse to have the listing not showing at all, due to the OOS option when you actually do have stock available.

I'm starting to use the OOS option.........

When a listing goes out of stock it won't take me more than minutes or hours to add more stock so the listing is only unavailable for a short time.

I also like some urgency, not the type of urgency that the listing will end but rather the urgency that with a quantity of 1 someone else might come along and buy it, having a quantity of 2 or 3 or 5 or 10 pretty much eliminates any incentive to pull the trigger now as opposed to tomorrow, next week or never (forgotten about).

More than 10 available doesn't exactly give the buyer the impression there's a limited qty available does it now?
