I am listing 4 items and Ebay is attempting to charge their fees from my designated account and the items haven’t even sold yet. $477 in charges. This doesn’t seem right. Can someone explain why they are charging before the auction ends?

…Also what is a BIN? And do I have to accept a best offer if it is not as much as I’m willing to accept? ( in my future sales where I won’t use a reserve)

Yes for the current listings that didn’t meet the reserve. They automatically re-listed - do I get charged again or can I end the listing and start again without a reserve - starting the bid with what I’m willing to accept?

BIN see post 29.
No you do not have to accept an "offer"

And…how can I keep my listing from automatically re-listing?

Good point. Thanks

You have to know what an auction is if you are going to use it. No need for a reserve with an auction including a BIN already in place. I am very surprised you hit the submit button without seeing the charge that was shown on that page before hitting the button.

BIN = Buy It Now
The reserve fee is charged when the listing goes live, so when an auction relists the reserve fee will be charged again. If you end the listing, then you can revise it to remove the Reserve before you relist it.
As noted above, you can revise the reserve on an active auction if it has more than 12 hours left, but you can't lower the reserve to an amount that's lower than the current high bid showing.
The automatic relist for auctions is something that eBay does for new sellers. When you end your listing and are revising it, look for a check box on thr listing form that will let you opt out of the automatic renewal.

Was that just for the current 4 listings? They had relisted them so they also have 4 other completed listings with reserve not met.
Yeah...that was just for those current listings. I didn't know there were 4 more duplicates...that's probably another $477. Ouch! and ^&%(*#(@#(*&^#&($!!!!

@oberrkerr wrote:This is good advice to this novice seller! One more question - If I unlist these items and start again without a reserve price (the lowest price I’m willing to accept) what fees would I then be charged?
Noooo....don't list them at the lowest price you are willing to accept. List them at the price that you think they will sell at with hopefully some room between that and your lowest price you're willing to accept. That way you will have room to negotiate on Best Offers.
Capiche?

Dont use reserve when running auctions. Just start it at the lowest youll accept for your item. Say no to the money grab!!!

I see you might have ended your sales.
What did you find out on the $477?
We'd love an update!

Do you know how to contact a live person at EBay or at least one online to appeal it?

You need to 'start' at the help pages
https://www.ebay.com/help/home
sometimes, if you scroll all the way to the bottom, you can get the contact links (phone or chat)
otherwise, keep following help links until that is offered to you for your specific problem
(which I am guessing would be fees)
