What would you do?

Buyer opens a return request for “does not fit”, takes photo of general item, then states under details that item measures approximately 1/2” too long. Does not show this measurement in photo, just states they are. Okay. I accept return as always.

Now mind you, nobody’s perfect and though 99% of items measure as stated in listings, occasionally an item may be off a bit. My descriptions state that size may vary slightly. I definitely have made mistakes over the years and have no problem owning up to them, but have never had buyer message the following …

“Realized after I shipped that I will not receive a refund on my original shipping because it’s a remorse return and I expect you to refund my shipping because item wasn’t as described” …

WWYD? 🤔

Shipping was $9.40 to CA from WI for a plus size pair of jeans, which I’ve obviously covered due to “free” returns. Buyer paid $17.98 (item) + $9.90 (shipping)

Thank you!

Kiks

FYI: Item has been shipped but is not expected to arrive back to me until 12-16; so at this time I’m unable to confirm or compare measurements

@kickin.assets

If it were me, I'd look back at the profits I made on eBay over the years and decide whether $10 was something I could part with in the name of good customer service.

I'd reply thusly:  "Sure, no problem, I will make the adjustment once I receive the item back."

(PS:  I offer 60 day paid returns... and over the course of several years I have received only one, because the color of the item purchased did not match that of a similar item the buyer already owned.  I have found over many years of selling here that a little flexibility -- even in the face of mild entitlement, like that demonstrated above -- in dealing with a customer who has purchased from me will prove beneficial down the road.)

It doesnt matter if the measurements are 100% correct or not.

Doesnt fit is a remorse return and the buyer is shipping the item back at her expense.

Not As Described would be something different all together.

I would refund for the item only.

The shipping to the buyer was paid to ship it and the buyer filed a remorse return.

I would also ignore the message. No need to respond. What she expects is not here or there.

What is the upside? $9.90

What is the downside? Negative feedback  This does not apply because of free returns.

I would refund.  Update- I would wait to get it back to see if i was correct or not. Refund if i was and decline the refund of shipping if they are wrong. IMHO

Sometimes with customers like this  i will ask them if they wanted a larger size (replacement) to see what they say. (even if you don't have one) Their answer does not always mean they are lying or not but can reveal a motive.

@chevymontecarlo88    FB would be removed because of the return.

 Oh yeah. I always forget about that. Good catch @klhmdg

If that was the case, i would wait until the item arrives to measure again vs what the listing states.

I would do what you claim you do - own up to your mistake if you made one. ("I definitely have made mistakes over the years and have no problem owning up to them")

So until you know whether you made a mistake, you don't know whether you need to own up to anything.

@klhmdg

Seller provides "free returns".  It is my understanding that the seller provides return shipping for "any" reason.

I would just refund the buyer upon receiving the item back and be done with it. Is $9.90 worth the hassle? They would be responsible for shipping back though due to the claim they originally made. Just refund original cost of the item and original shipping cost.

Now I understand others may fight and just refund the original cost of item and no shipping cost however buyer can appeal and win the shipping cost back.

Hi @kickin.assets

My initial thought was not to refund.  But thinking it over ... I would.   As mentioned, it may not be worth the hassle of an unhappy buyer over $9.90.    In fact on occasion I have refunded when it wasn't warranted.   I would just say  "as a courtesy I will refund the shipping amount of $9.90 once the item is returned."   Thank you!

The entitlement on her part is the most annoying part of this, but refund & be done by adding her to your 'special' list and chalk it up this time.

I have bought a LOT of clothing on ebay.

I find it ridiculous that a buyer is sending something

back over a lousy 1/2", Really ?!!

I would never do that over such a TINY difference!

@bonanza125

Can a buyer appeal if their reason was “did not fit” and they did not take pictures of said this 1/2” difference?

I have paid their return shipping.

@hollysfinds

I had someone once (years ago) argue over 1/4” on leg opening.

Yes, there are people out there that have that much time on their hands! 😂
