What to do "INR" and "Tracking uploaded on time and validated"

Anyone with time to provide advise that may be duplicated elsewhere.  I got so confused by the specifics of each case in various discussion board threads.

My specifics,

  • I sold something.
  • I bought a label on ebay within handling time and put on porch for pick up.
  • Buyer has filed INR.
  • Checking only now, I see the package has received no scans.  (Two other packages left on the porch that same day were picked up and scanned.)

My questions:

  • How should I respond to the INR?  My inclination is to refund, but I could offer the buyer something similar.  Needs to be done ASAP or get a defect for seller unresolved?
  • Can I salvage "tracking uploaded on time" metric to save TRS by using the label now?*
    • The label from me to buyer was bought but hasn't been "used" according to scans, do I salvage anything by "using" it and getting a scan now to send substitute goods?
    • This trade is a failed "tracking uploaded on time" because there has been no scan.  With just 45 trades in three months, and one other trade also in January for which I forgot to get the label and mail, makes my metric 95.5%.  Simple math dictates that if I have even one fewer trades in February as I had in November, I loose TRS.
    • I've been TRS for a long while, do I qualify for grace period?  Haven't calculated it yet, but it is also true that 2 or 3 fewer trades in February than in November will push the metric below 90%.  Impossible to increase sales when one is on "super secret" ebay restrictions.
    • Will this eventually show up on the other metric about "on time delivery"?

* I know the arguments about how little value there is in TRS, but even if it is only important to me, please humor my questions...

Thank you.

It's not possible to reprint a label more than 24 hour after purchase. And even if you could, most PO's won't accept a label that's more than a day or two "stale" (i.e., past the date that's printed on the label). So you can't salvage the "Uploaded in time" here. The grace period has some thresholds, such as 90% tracking uploaded in time.

It's too late to meet the other time-related evaluation for on-time shipping, which uses a 12-month evaluation period.

Transactions that have been canceled aren't counted towards your TRS percentage.

  • How should I respond to the INR?  My inclination is to refund, but I could offer the buyer something similar.  Needs to be done ASAP or get a defect for seller unresolved?

This is the only part that really matters at this point.

Offering something similar is no-go.  The system isn't set up for that.

You have 3 days to respond, and that doesn't mean via the SEND BUYER A MESSAGE section - that's not considered responding.  Responding consists only of  choosing one of the options offered to you in the INR case screen.

You didn't say how late this item is.  If it's not very late and may still arrive with the scans picking up late in transit, you could provide this info IF it is scanned as DELIVERED before those 3 days are up.

Otherwise, you are going to have to refund.

If you don't refund, your buyer can escalate to eBay for resolution and THAT's what will get your the  unresolved defect.  Sometimes buyers don't escalate right away but ... personally I wouldn't want to risk it.

If you elect to refund, be sure to do it in the body of the INR case so that it's properly logged and you are credited accordingly.

Don't worry about the tracking uploaded issue - you have plenty of wiggle room - eBay won't boot you off the TRS program just because of 1 or 2 instances.

Now - as for the TRS deal.   Not sure what particularly appeals to you about being a TRS but be aware that the financial benefits (i.e. final fee discounts) will not  obtain to any of your sales that do not have a 1 day or less handling fee.  I did not see the TRS Plus badge on any of your listings that I looked at.   You have 30 day returns (which is required for TRS plus on a listing) on all but about 10 of your listings, but looking at the estimated delivery times on a few of those, it appears that you have not set your handling times short enough to comply with the TRS Plus requirement.

Did you check the tracking with the shipper?  It's possible that the tracking is fully populated on the shippers website but did not properly download to eBay.  If that's the case you have to call into CS and let them know.

I have seen shipments that don't receive a scan until delivered, and in a couple cases not even then.

If it's USPS sign up for email notices, sometimes that causes things to show up and start moving.

If you can show that the tracking is valid and moving you can call CS and request an extension on the INR to give the item time to get there.

What to do "INR" and "Tracking uploaded on time and validated"

Thank you for the thoughtful reply.

"You didn't say how late this item is."  The item was to be mailed about 13 days ago - plenty of time for the package to have gotten at least one scan somewhere.  That it has gotten no scans whatsoever makes it a poor bet that it will get a scan in the next 3 days

I'll follow that advice, refund "body of the INR case so that it's properly logged and [I am] credited accordingly."

And follow the advice, "Don't worry about the tracking uploaded issue."  Whats done is done.

Do you know of other instances where ebay has not enforced the TRS requirement on this metric?  It doesn't have the numeric threshold like the defect factor.

Why is the TRS important?  Definitely, not money.  On 40 transactions!  Couple of dollars TRS discount.  However, I believe listings with TRS sell better - whether because of placement or buyer confidence.  Also, I am a bit of a measurement freak, if there is a measure of "performance", I pay attention to it.

My listings not TRS...  Most of my listings met the TRS requirement, having returns and 1-day handling, until tonight when I extended my handling time to 3 days to safeguard my  "tracking uploaded on time" metric.  I want to take a step back, too, to consider how this package was lost between my porch and the mailman's hands.

Thank you for your time!

Thank you for the time of your reply.  Your advice about caveats to tracking seesm spot on.  In this case, however, there has been no scans whatsoever, and no progress to show.  😞  I am assuming the item is lost.  How?  I don't yet have an idea.

Thank you!

What to do "INR" and "Tracking uploaded on time and validated"

Hoping to close the loop, so to speak, I have now discovered that I apparently put the wrong label on the missing package.  Tracking for one of the other packages put out for pick up the same day shows delivery of a "duplicate" package.  I'm contacting that buyer to ask if he indeed received something in addition to his order.  At least I don't have to worry about theft from the porch or my own memory loss.
