Why did it not get delivered directly to the buyers address?  Was delivery attempted so FedEx left a note to pick it up at FedEx?

FedEx will only  hold a package so long before sending back to the sender.

Fedex tried 3 times as it was a higher value item with a signature requirement. Left at Walgreens onsite. Which it is still there to this day.

Re: What to do... item not picked up.

The item was paid for by the buyer, and the buyer didn't put in an INR claim, so i believe you should just wait it out. The buyer may not be able to pick it up for whatever reason, and if or when they do go to pick it up, and it's not there, they would be able to put in a INR claim with Paypal (if they paid with Paypal).

Any idea what the limitations of timing for the INR is? Or when would it be considered rejected?

With Paypal you can open up a case in 180 days

@brdikmd

The buyer can open a claim one day past the Estimated Delivery Date on your listing and they have a 30-Day window to do that with eBay... same for 180 days on PayPal.

I'd not worry about a claim just yet. I think the shipper will bring it back to you once they see no one come for it.

If the tracking shows a "delivery attempt" it is not your problem anymore.

Re: What to do... item not picked up.

Have you attempted to contact the buyer to inquire why they haven't picked it up?  They may have forgotten about it! (though if it cost a lot, not sure why one would forget!)

Re: What to do... item not picked up.

I actually see this slightly different than some of the other posters.  I would be calling Fedex to find out why they have held on to this package for somewhere between 1-2 months.  I see that are really curious.  And since you say this is a high $$ item, I would be insisting they get that package on its way back to me ASAP.  The longer they have it the more exposure it has to get lost or damaged.

As to what the rules are for a buyer filing an INR.  As others have said it is 30 days in Ebay and if they used PP 180 days in PP.  However PP went to 180 days using the excuse that most credit cards allow that much time, which is completely untrue.  But it is PP's rule.  But know if the buyer goes to file a claim with their CC, it is likely they actually have 60-90 days to file a dispute.

So it is a little complicated on how much time the buyer has for filing a dispute with the various options.  But really I would get that package back from Fedex as they have already had it too long.

If your buyer does file a claim, come on back before you respond to it and let us help you best respond to protect yourself.

Tagging on.       I'd do nothing.    Let it ride.

How do we know the buyer didn't pick this up weeks ago?       Not scanned?      So what?

This might just be a situation where the tiger gets poked and the seller ends up sorry.

@dirk12955

According to the OP, this is a high $$ value item.  Exactly what is the harm that you see happening for the OP to contact Fedex and have them return the item to them?  The tracking already shows 3 attempts to deliver, so they are covered on that.  So what is it that you see is the danger?

No one is talking about contacting the buyer.  That certainly isn't something I'd recommend at all.  Just Fedex, leave the buyer alone at this point.

Re: What to do... item not picked up.

We're still assuming that the item has not been put into the hands of the buyer.

Not a real danger if the buyer is left out of the equation.      If the seller makes arrangements with Fed ex to

return his item,   Is the seller prepared to refund the buyer?

Some sellers would refund right away.    Some sellers might not be so anxious to give the money back.

Re: What to do... item not picked up.

The buyer could have the package right now - the Walgreens employee could have forgotten to scan the pickup.

I doubt that Walgreens and Fedex will let a package sit for almost two months. After two or three weeks it should have been sent back to you.

OR

The buyer could be sick, or worse. 😞

It's not a problem until it becomes one, and it may never become  a problem because of what I said above.

You know about it, you can plan for a refund if you eventually hear from the buyer. I guess you could contact Fedex to see if it was picked up, but without a scan they're not going to know. Maybe see if they can locate it at the Walgreens and send it back to you, then you could refund the buyer when you get it back. Other than that there's not much else to do.

At this point in time I would do nothing.
