What to do after refusing to cancel a order

I refused to cancel a buyers order 11 days ago. He still hasn’t paid and I can’t open a case against him. What should I do?

I’m sorry to say but everyone here who replied is incorrect. I don’t blame them because this is a really new issue… started when eBay got rid of unpaid item process and transitioned it to “cancellation as buyer hasn’t paid.”

I actually commented about this in another post recently. I know how it works because I went thru it days after eBay got rid of unpaid item process. Heck even the eBay cs reps I spoke with didn’t know.

Once a buyer files a cancellation request, eBay treats this one in the same as a “cancellation”. Meaning you cannot file one anymore once a buyer filed one… not even for “problem with buyer address or OOS”. eBay’s system just won’t let you have more than one cancellation on an order.

So when you declined the buyers cancellation request, that was it. The buyer might get reminders to pay still, but they can’t get a strike because no cancellation will be filed anymore. Even if you try manually, the option to “cancel order” is gone from your actions. I’m not sure if this was ebays intention or not. But that’s how it is now.

FYI, I have one item awaiting payment for 87 days now. I wanted to give this guy a payment strike because he filed a cancellation request and told me he bought by mistake and threatened to report me to eBay and give me a negative if I didn’t accept his cancellation.

I don't do auctions ... but doesn't he have 5 days to pay, then ebay will cancel the order and put a strike against him?

You cancel the sale, use Buyer did not pay

Re: What to do after refusing to cancel a order

Yes, as said, you can cancel the item yourself. Buyer didn't pay.

But you made a mistake not accepting it in the first place. No seller can force a payment. So you wasted 11 days and have probably been stressed about it that whole time. And, really, would you rather the buyer pay, then return it as not as described? The buyer kind of did you a little favor with the request.

Just curious.

What happened to that 5 day auto cancel, auto non-paying bidder strike?

Was i reading wrong?  Am i losing my mind?  Or both?    😉

Re: What to do after refusing to cancel a order

You have to cancel after 4 days and select buyer didn’t pay! After that you get a message from eBay that your fees will be returned and the buyer gets a strike.

The recently adopted unpaid item cancellation process defaults to manual cancellation. A seller can change the process to be automatic if s/he so chooses, or s/he can continue to process each incident manually.

Here's the eBay help page that describes the process. You'll want to bookmark it so you can answer questions correctly when the come up on the discussion boards again:

@koni-856

How exactly are you attempting to "open a case against him?" Are you using the recently adopted unpaid item cancellation process? You should be able to cancel the order after four calendar days by selecting "Buyer hasn't paid" from the dropdown menu when you cancel.

The page linked below explains the entire process, and even has a button labeled, "Cancel order" that you can click to get started.

If it is a new account (since May 1st) those settings will no doubt be automatic, but on older accounts when it changed over they only placed the auto cancel on those of us who already had our auto assistant selected, those that didn't would have had to go in and choose the auto system.

On the OP's account, it should be automatic though (I was just too lazy to go in and look at the OP's reg).

So, if the unpaid item cancellation process is automatic on the OP's account (opened in August of this year), why didn't the transaction get automatically cancelled?

I'd like to bookmark the citation that explains that. Could you post it for me when you get a minute? Thanks!

Re: What to do after refusing to cancel a order

Can't remember where I read it, just know it happened to me and a lot of my seller friends, but my account was opened 15-16 years ago.

As to the OP, they may have been one of the accounts that just didn't get the auto added when they opened it, any number of reasons really I guess with eBay.

Because I read the 11 days, that was why I explained the manual way of diong it.

If you do run across it, I'd love for you to p.m. me with a link. I try to answer a lot of questions about this process, and I really want to make sure I'm posting the correct information.

Thanks!  🐨

Re: What to do after refusing to cancel a order

Nothing. It’ll just sit there in your awaiting payments page until he pays, you archive it, or probably after 90 days pass. This is an eBay loophole that allows buyers to not pay and not get a payment strike.

@bigdeals.etc

Wow, totally did not know that, so basically a seller is forced to agree to any un-paid cancellation request. So much for that little bit of seller 'pay back' to lousy buyer's. This place is getting worse by the day!

Is manual NPB available still or not, I know the resolution centre is kaput ??

@koni-856  Sorry for the misinformation and incorrect advice, I will SR my posts.
