What's the point of NO Returns?

I listed something I selected no returns.

Now buyer 28 days from sale wants to send it back.

Correct me if I am wrong but

I could say no and point to the listing saying no returns, and he will quickly move to destroy my 100% positive feedback.

So what's the point of saying no returns when they have you over a barrel?

I tested it for a week, it worked, I resold, it's in good working order just like the listing said.....

10 bucks to ship this 25 dollar item. If I take the return, even if I resell I'm operating at a loss.

No point whatsoever.  Just a shell game like everything eBay does.  No difference between 30 day buyers pays returns and no returns.

Depends if the buyer filed an INAD or not.

If they want to return it because they changed their mind, you don't have to accept it.

If they claim the item isn't as described, Ebay's MBG overrules your no returns.

You'll have to pay to have the item returned and give a full refund or refund without returning.

Have a great day.

Re: What's the point of NO Returns?

Thanks for posting this re: 14 day returns...plus in certain categories you can also deduct up to 20% if item comes back to seller damaged. And has nothing to do with being TRS. Cannot find my crib sheet which I usually print out and keep on hand...When this "summary" cut and paste has been posted, actually since Jan 2020? maybe earlier, tried to get it revised with no go lol.

Re: What's the point of NO Returns?

I agree, pointless becuase if they want to return something there is nothing really you can do but accept the return of Ebay will accept the return for you. I do not recommend using no returns for several reasons. 1) Good buyers who usually DO NOT RETURN stuff wont buy from you becuase they still want to know it is returnable if they do not like/want it. 2) Buyers will LIE and tell you it is defective, the box came with martians in it and scared their kids, etc etc to get a free return paid by you anyway. 3) Most if not all retailers accept returns under almost every situation with a few exceptions.

Re: What's the point of NO Returns?

If a case is unresolved to the point eBay steps in the seller will take a hit on seller metrics.

In your case the return cost may outweigh the return for refund.  You can always chose to just refund.

I generally advise against; such due to the amount of scams involved with returns: but have had to do so myself just due to cost.

Why spend good money on more loss.

@abfabvintage

Yes I put a footnote on that post that notes there are additional benefits for sellers with Free Returns and TRS w/ 30+ day returns.

Those sellers can deduct up to 50% in certain situations is due to having Free Returns and/or TRS w/ 30+ day returns.

Re: What's the point of NO Returns?

Sure, depending on your margin, one individual return might put you at a loss.  However, you have to look at things in the totality of what you sell.  If you have a 5% return rate, operating at a loss on every return shouldn't be a big issue.  That $10 turns into $0.20 if you look at it in the context of your total sales.

Re: What's the point of NO Returns?

To minimize any confusion over my original omission of the ability to have a 14 day return policy in some categories, I updated my earlier post, so it is as follows.

Re: What's the point of NO Returns?

Well there is almost no point to it.   It's only value is if the buyer says I just no longer want it and want to return it.  Then you can say no, right up until they file an item not as described case.

Re: What's the point of NO Returns?

I sell used CD's that way, That's the only way to sell that item type a buyer won't get his money back. Feedback is a joke don't take it as meaningful anything, how much money does feedback bring in? zero

Re: What's the point of NO Returns?

If your listing says no returns, and the buyer leaves you negative feedback because you wouldn't accept his remorse return, you can get it removed.
