What now?

I was recently permanently suspended in a very bizarre process that seems to violate eBay’s own policies. (I made another post with more detail in the midst of trying to process what was going on).

In brief: new seller/sold just a couple of small things. after I submitted identity verification documents for Managed Payments I discovered I was unable to login. I never received any communication from eBay notifying me of suspension or any problems with my account. Customer service won’t discuss what happened at all. I’ve spoken to two reps and someone on Facebook Messanger There were some oddities that happened as well in the saga that suggest something weird was up.

But anyway- this is a life time unappealable ban in a sealed process with no notice- they hold my payout money for a couple months and then give it to my state. I have reason to believe that because of IP address, no one in my household will ever be able to use eBay. I sent things I owned and won’t get back to people who paid. eBay just gets to decide I don’t get the money.

I submitted real ID documents and violated no policies (no complaints from buyers, items-NWSL cards- not problematic).

Public review: there’s not like a Yelp where I can publicly call them out for such a shady, unfair, and upsetting customer service process and alert other people to the possibility. The Reddit bans discussions of suspensions.

Complaint: the customer service is enormously dissatisfactory and completely uninterested in my experience. There are no appeals and anyway, any complaint requires an account.

Legal: If I ran a business with more $$ involved, suing (there’s a couple causes of action, I checked) might be worth it. Honestly I’m maybe upset enough to consider sending a letter tho… maybe.

As it is, I am more upset about how I’ve been treated than the money…… Any advice at all? Anyone ever hear of a similar out of the blue experience?

I have heard of similar 'out of the blue' experiences. I have heard of no way to effectively fight them. Dang...

Ebay is surely collecting personal info to sell. It's been a common tactic to insinuate or allow you to believe Because they provide opportunity which shows they want you to sell by grabbing more and more personal info.

So sorry this is happening to you. This is my experience and advice

I am sure any day I will endure what you just did. Sell very small items. I do just as well on another with about half the cost on one other venue. Ebay has so many scammers and I've never had a one on another venue. Because they partner with scammers for decades now. So though I sell more here, the headaches are twice as much as at the other venue.

If you get back on selling, they will allow you to sell for maybe a few weeks to a month, maybe longer but pull the same thing. Provide more personal info they can sell but do not allow you the ability to actually sell.  This is old hat.

Have you tried posting on eBay's Facebook wall and/or mentioning them in a public tweet?

l believe you can file in small claims court. If Ebay doesn't show, it's an automatic win. Otherwise I don't know any other avenue

If they aren't giving you the money, then they must not be able to verify identity associated with the account......  Have others in your family sold on ebay?

sooner or later they will get this ID also.

Most likely linked to a different account that also is suspended.

There are a lot of reasons such can happen.

Any of your family members suspended???

I have read before about permanent restrictions here in the forums, and the lack of information given to the banned seller. Very sorry this happened to you.

I cannot imagine they would keep your funds, that would be illegal. Where did you get the info that your payments would go to the state?

In brief: new seller/sold just a couple of small things. after I submitted identity verification documents for Managed Payments I discovered I was unable to login.

Is some information missing?  I don't get the time line, there usually is no ability to list and sell unless the Managed Payments verification process is complete yet you say you sold before that.

I have reason to believe that because of IP address, no one in my household will ever be able to use eBay.

Unfortunately it could be that the IP address has been associated with nefarious activity unrelated to you.

I've done zero personal research on this, but several members have posted that eBay customer service reps have been quoted with saying after a certain amount of time, sellers' pending payouts will be escheated to whatever State agency is responsible for unclaimed property. In my state, it's a division of our State Treasurer's office.

Don't foget this policy:

"We reserve the right to refuse, modify, or terminate all or part of our Services to anyone for any reason at our discretion."

Not true unfortunately, thousands of sellers were migrated to MP before they had verified or supplied bank info. Then had to verify later to receive the money once an MP item sold - sort of like an eBay 'push' them into it scheme.

Legally - not sure how that stands, because until a seller has signed up for MP, don't see how they could have agreed to those 'MP' terms and conditions, but it is eBay after all.

It was probably outlined in one of the 92 emails e-Bay sent to you as a Seller telling you about MP, to sign up for MP, now is the time for MP, if you continue to sell, you will be subject to MP.......lol
