What is with the shipping fees?

When did ebay start charging fees on shipping? I sold an item that ended up costing me more to ship than expected, so for a 10 dollar item, I LOST money because of it. Didn't even cover the original cost of what I sold because of the shipping fee that was tacked on...

I had expected the listing fee that was supposedly only .10 cents, but that jumped after it sold at my minimum price. Then the shipping fee too?!?!?!

I do believe this is why fewer and fewer people are actually buying and selling on ebay. It isn't worth my time to sell a collectors item that sells on Amazon for $40.00 PLUS 15 in shipping for $10 (and I paid $8 for it initially) plus $10 in shipping only to be left with $4.12 after all of the ebay fees...

Last time I ever sell anything here...

May be the economy but I have noticed that items are not bringing what they did a few years ago.

If it wasn't worth your while to sell it for $10, why in the world did you choose a starting price that allowed it to sell for that?

If you are blaming eBay for your inability to set your selling price appropriately, I would suggest your blame is misplaced.

Re: What is with the shipping fees?

You mean the value added fee on shipping commonly called the 'Donahoe save the Titanic from sinking fee' ??

I understand you wanted to be left with more, post sale.  Just raise your prices, both item price and shipping price, to allow you to get more after the fees.  There is a final value fee on what the item sells for, and a fee on the shipping.  Roughly about 10%.  Then there are Paypal fees of, I think, 2.9% plus 30 cents.  IF you have listing or upgrade fees, figure those in there as well.

You can also check completed listings to sell what sold and what it sold for to help you.  You don't have to lose so much money on your transaction.

Hope this helps; good luck!

Re: What is with the shipping fees?

@jb_consulting  Not sure where you are getting the fee amounts in your post but when I signed up about 2 years ago Fees were very clear ... and yes, on shipping to.

eBay's basic Final Value Fee = 10% of the total order - item PLUS shipping

PayPal's Fees = 30 cents PER transaction plus 2.9% of the total order - item PLUS shipping.

If you are on the Everyda rate plan you get 50 FREE Insertion fees per month, go over that amount and they are 30 cents each and charged the moment you post the listing ...

Do any of the numbers above sound familiar to you?
