I have several sheets of usable stamps. The total face value of them is almost $180. Not only can I not sell them for $120-125, I do not even get offers. There is immediate savings of $55-60 before someone will bother to make an offer to get them cheaper. Can someone explain why people pass up on obvious savings? If you posted $180 cash for sale, it would take 30 seconds to sell it for $120. lol It is the same thing! 😛

Many of the remaining people who use postage stamps use forever stamps.
Some people have heard the stories about counterfeit stamps and do not want to take the risk of buying stamps for postage on Ebay.
Unlike in the past, as I am sure you know, USPS will not buy back stamps, so they are not quite the equivalent of cash.

Too many fake stamps on the internet, not just on eBay, so people are warry of buying online from non-USPS sellers. The $55-60 savings could be a red flag to many people.

Selling below value can be a big red flag for some. They could be worried about them being fake.

$120.00 + shipping + tax....so I am assuming it might be more than $120.00 total?
I don't know what they were you were selling.
I am one who buys stamps to use.
Any flag stamps are boring...boring looking stamps are just boring.
People want to see cool stamps on envelopes
Low dominations are hard to use because postage is .73 domestic and 1.65 international.
Religious stamps I don't use because other countries have different religions and I do have a number of other country buyers.
A lot of competition out there who are selling USA stamps who are legit USA sellers.
Never ran into fake or counterfeit stamps...I tend to buy from the big time sellers.
So many things are fake these days...so common sense would tell someone whether they are fake or counterfeit.
And condition of the stamps whether to be used or not is very important.

I don't think most people have a need for that much postage, and projects who do mailings have to be careful where they source stamps - limited market. I had old postage I couldn't unload as well.

You are correct.
And my cat's not allowed to buy things online......anymore

This is positive proof that people think something is to good to be true. You could try to sell gold, it might sell below the going rate, say half price? Sometimes my utter paranoia trys to tell me that eBay has a button that turns off our pages and buries them in the cellar, but that would be impossible. The other reason is people dont use stamps so much and just buy what they need like a few stamps at a time. mmmm, I will ponder this for awhile because, strangely, I had rapid sales for a year and now nothing, not one sale for almost 2 months. I remember the time I bought some gold nuggets here on the site and sold them for 20% more six months later, I call that making money. You would think eBay likes that because when I sell something I almost always buy something with the sales money, so the get it coming and going. It must be rough on eBay now that they have to collect the state taxes and federal rules kicking in, just more work for them these small times sales when they make thousands from big box sellers.

"Can someone explain why people pass up on obvious savings?"
For the same reason you have chosen to sell them rather than use them.

I don't see the stamps currently posted in your active listings so I am not sure what type of stamps they are but as others mentioned tht is a LOT of $'s in stamps, maybe split them into a couple of different lot listings. The other thing, as others also mentioned, is the fear of counterfeits and the post office policy on letters or packages detected with counterfeit stamps which is basically tossing the package into a dead bin, no notification to the sender or the receiver.

I don't use them because I do not mail enough to make it worthwhile to sit on them. Someone who mails daily or several times a week can get the savings quicker.

Without seeing the stamps in question we can't answer accurately. When you say "several sheets", I assume 4-5 sheets, so a face value of $35 a sheet would be nonmachineable stamps or high value stamps, which are of use to very few people, really, if not Chinese counterfeits.
I am offered old postage at 50% and even less off face at stamp shows, and even knowing they aren't Chinese counterfeits, I find its not worth the time to put together and apply all the different values to make up the postage when I am doing production - and the old stamps lead to delays when they don't go through the machines and have to be hand processed for correct postage.
We are told Ebay makes more money from the ads it places in our listings than actual sales on the platform. We do not share in that revenue, but provide the value and labor.

Like Jamesstamps, I buy older bulk postage to use on my customer mail. Stamp collectors expect, and often request stamps on their eBay orders. I pay an average of 55% face value. And I buy $500 face from my regular sources all the time.
As James said, a big lot of low face stamps is pretty useless. I can use a certain amount of 3-4-5-6-8-10-13 cent stamps to make up rates on envelopes, but a full lot of those is a hard sell since there isn't enough space on an envelope for that many stamps!
A typical 73 cent envelope of mine leaves here with a pair of 32s- a 5 and a 4. I don't use old stamps on International shipments because they attract attention. I haven't had any shipments go missing since I stopped doing so. I use the standard new USPS round International stamp on those.
I don't see a postage lot in your current or past listings, if you have a lot to sell at 50% let me know!

They are Canadian stamps that were in a series that lasted for 15 years. I have a sheet of each - only missing 1 year. Fortunately, Canadians are not as paranoid as Americans & don't automatically think, "something is up!" just because there is a deal. 😛

'old stamps lead to delays when they don't go through the machines'...never heard of that.
I use old stamps...my shipping is usually 4-5 days cross country.
Haven't lost anything yet for years in the mail.
I get great feedback from buyers when I use old stamps...and the feedbacks usually come from those who buy cheapie items from me.
High end buyers usually don't leave feedback unless there is a problem.
