What is the longest you have held an item for a buyer?

So, we have had someone win an item on Friday. This morning we were notified by the buyer that they cannot pay until the beginning of the month. What would you do? Just asking to see the opinion of my fellow sellers.

Thank you 😊

Never.  They pay and I ship, same if not next day. I'm not running a lay away and even then they have to put money down for that to happen.  Don't let slow paying buyers run your show.  This is your site...you run the show.  I know you're most likely trying to be courteous and that's a good thing.  However, you are here to make money, not to chase it.  Just say no...my opinion anyway.

Have a great day and stay warm!

I agree with the Islander; one day. Perhaps if I sold items with repeat customers, my position would depend upon the relationship.

It would be cancelled for non-payment in 4 days.

Ayup. It's one thing for a buyer to pay now and then ask for a hold on shipping. It's different if the buyer isn't even planning to pay for another two weeks. (Plus, in two weeks' time, they will have found another shiny object to spend their money on.)

I would diplomatically reply that eBay (not you; don't make it personal) requires payment within four days of purchase or it will have to be cancelled.

I would cancel after 4 days for non-payment. And not email buyer anything.

And I would block buyer from future purchases if they don't pay for the item in a timely manner.

Buyer had no right buying something and holding up on payment. Buyer should not have been bidding on something they don't have money to pay for it.

Thank you everyone! That is what our response would be as well.  4 days at the most. This was a first in all these years to ask us to hold it for 2 weeks. Happy we are all on the same seller page, so to speak. haha

Beware, in case you're next.

Have a great day & stay cozy out there.

The proper time to ask was BEFORE bidding.

I'd NOT respond to the sport bidder

I'd file  the NPB after 4 days and let him eat the ding on his account

I'd block him from doing it again

I'd relist the item and breathe a sigh of relief that I never

actually shipped anything to this high maintenance time waster.

It depends. I've had buyers contact me, asking if they could hold off payment until other of my auctions that they were watching or bidding on ended. I'm a low volume seller and am not about to drive a bidder away so in the relatively rare instance where this occurs I am happy to oblige their request, especially if it's a repeat buyer.

Multiple wins over a few days is a different story.

Winning one item on January 12th and asking the seller (After the fact)  to wait for the payment till

some time after February 1st (20 days)  is unreasonable.

I have all my items on Buy It Now with IMMEDIATE PAYMENT (on my selling account). So if someone askes me to delay shipping, I say "I need to ship thins withing my handling time as required by Ebay. You can have your mail held for free by your local post office."

If it is an AUCTION or Best Offer, I open a "Payment Not Received" dispute as soon as I am able. Why should somebody hold up the opportunity for someone else to buy an item?

I have the automatic unpaid item process enabled to cancel after 4 days @frecklesfinery88 . You can set up the same on this page: https://www.ebay.com/Cancel/Preference/UnpaidPurchase

Another reference point is eBay's UPI policy:

https://www.ebay.com/help/policies/payment-policies/unpaid-item-policy?id=4271

And how to manage unpaid items:

https://www.ebay.com/help/selling/getting-paid/resolving-unpaid-items?id=4137

Because I have automatic UPI rules in place, a buyer like yours would get a response similar to this:

Buyer,

eBay will automatically cancel any transaction not paid for within 4 days (96 hours). Sorry the system will not allow me to extend that timeline.

Seller

And it's true that the timeline cannot be extended once the buyer commits to the purchase. The system will cancel after 4 days and I can't change it, nor would I want to.

I've never been able to understand people that hit the "BIN"  or bid on an

item when they have no intention or means of paying.

"Can't pay until the beginning of the month"

Yeah,   Right.    Watch me hold my breath waiting......
