I started selling again a couple months ago. My sales are horrible although I try to keep my items at a very low price. I know that i'm in a very competitive market selling bedding but by keeping my items low I thought that I would do much better? Shipping has taken a toll on me. I have lost money there. And had to charge more for shipping . Any help would be appreciated! So far with what I have sold I had a NPB and another buyer telling me that her sheet set did not have the pillow cases in the package. Although I know they were in the package I still refunded her money! Ebay is not the place that I remember?

Perhaps the department store "spring sales" have had an affect on all who sell bedding on Ebay. Since you are selling items which are highly competitive "ranking" is very important. I think if you sell off-and-on your ranking may get lowered with Ebay's algorithms. The more you sell the higher your ranking becomes. Hopefully your items are at least making it on the first page after someone searches a bedding parameter with the default "Best Match" setting. That's my thought with your issue. I sell vintage unique items so my inventory usually doesn't get stuck in the abyss. I've noticed that my ranking has improved with more sales. I've noticed some Ebay sellers "giving away" their merchandise to probably enjoy a higher ranking for future sales at a higher price (just my theory which is not a bad strategy for sellers engaged in a competitive marketplace). Good luck!

I don't buy any new junk from China, especially online. This is why I sell used vintage items because they're constructed of better quality materials. I see stuff sold at pennies on the dollar with free shipping from China. How does that exactly work for the Chinese Ebay seller who mathematically loses money with each sale? Why would anybody want to buy this junk even though it's cheaply priced? What a conundrum!

Great point! I would have Buy-It-Now listings on items which are competitive. I only list rare items with a good following in an auction.

The auction market is fairly dead unless you have rare items with a good following. I list common items with a Buy-It-Now listing at a fair price. They take longer to sell but Ebay sellers have a right to earn a profit. Nowadays, if you list something for $1.00 which is worth $20 it stands a good chance of selling for $1. I've been trying to sell some vintage Taxco sterling silver jewelry which is in a highly competitive market. Some sellers are letting this stuff go for scrap metal value which depresses the prices. There are a few sellers who roll the dice and do auctions with very low starting bids. I've noticed that the sellers who are successful have their own following of bidders. You are also selling a "non-collector" item and how often do people buy bed sheets, anyway? It may be difficult to create a following with your mechandise. I would try to cozy-up with interior designers or other businesses which may be inclined to make multiple purchases. You might try creating a "niche" in the marketplace by "specializing" in some area of design. Without perusing your inventory I would suspect that some particular print designs sell better than others. Customers tend to make purchases based on their own design criteria and a savy seller knows how to use this target market.

Some of your items may fit in the USPS Flat Rate PADDED envelope. You have to order these directly from the USPS website. It is a no charge item ~ something to consider when you go over a pound.

Can you use priority with the shipping bags? When you use ebay shipping service?

It is very dfficult to sell new products competitively- seeing that it costs a fraction to ship from china, compared to what we have to pay for domestic shipping.- hence, why i mostly sell vintage/niche items and/or very light (cheap to ship) items..
Tax returns JUST hit- it would have been slow from christmas till now, and now that we are in tax season, there is a LOT of competition from the bigger sellers who were prepared for tax season.
Shipping and handling will be your number one enemy on ebay. The faster you get familiar with the various price rates of all your shipping options, the better. In addition to flat-rate boxes, USPS also has "reigional rate" boxes. Occasionally, i am able to ship lower than quoted, so, i sometimes sell an item at cost, and make the money back in shipping.

i think the entire ebay market is oversaturated with products, right now. If your listings are all 4 pages back- every one of them, then perhaps you should diversify into other product categories.
buyers are getting tax refunds, but they arent spending money on just anything...

Read the responses that will help you improve your listings. Auctions are not good for every day items like bed sheets, DO NOT listen to some on these board poster who blame Ebay. No one is controling your sales. Either buyers want what you are offering or they don't. People can see your stuff, you just have to make changes that compete against all other sellers selling the same items as you.

Does your bedding stand out in some way that would entice people to spend the money to ship it versus just going to Target or Walmart? Exciting patterns maybe? Are the same patterns offered by other sellers here?
