A buyer requests return of a $300 computer component 35 days after it was DELIVERED to him. The reason for return he chooses is "Reason: Doesn't work or defective". Comment is "Comments: This item is DOA"
The auction has just standard 30 day return policy.
What if I deny the request and buyer escalates to eBay customer service?

You're golden. 😉

Too bad, they waited too long for an eBay case, generally lspeaking --- but PayPal (if that's how they paid) will refund up to 180 days.

If PayPal can grant any return request for up to 180 days, it technically says every buyer has 180 day warranty service. That's unfair and I really don't believe PayPal can ignore the 30-day policy stated on the auction?
Let's leave alone paypal dispute first. I would like to know if eBay customer service will deny buyer's request if buyer escalates to customer service when I refuse return. I care this because I worry it might be counted as defect affecting seller performance.

So no more replies? I need help!

Ebay should deny the request since it's outside the 30 day deadline. But, once again, PayPal has 180 days after the transaction date to open a case but the buyer will need to pay for the return unless he's signed up with PayPal for them to pay. And, yes, PayPal can ignore ebay's 30 day returns.

Was this a new or used part?

You got the information you need. eBay should deny the return since it is outside of the 30 day MBG and it will not be a defect affecting your seller performance. If the buyer hasn't left FB, they can still leave you FB for 60 days but while it doesn't look good, it won't affect your seller performance. The buyer can still open a SNAD via Paypal for up to 6 months but the buyer will have to pay return shipping. The buyer can still do a chargeback with their credit card for approximately 6 months

1. Did the Buyer leave Feedback already?
2. PayPal allows up to 180 Days after delivery date (as others mentioned) to process a return claim
3. Buyer is outside the 30 Day eBay window for a claim ... if they don't know that you can certainly let them know ...
4. Who knows what eBay would do if the Buyer asked to get a refund ... I would hate to think they would make an exception and extend that 30 day time frame but stranger things have happened.
5. Item cost and risk: well, if this was a low cost item AND Buyer has NOT left FB yet they have 60 days to do so. The risk of course is Buyer can not process claim being outside the 30 Days, you let them know that and they leave neg FB if none has been left yet. So the injustice of course is you did not set the 30 Day limit but you are getting the neg FB because of eBay policy.

And just because they can does not mean they will, or that they even know that they can.
Statistically speaking, since PayPal implemented their 180 days to get your item free policy, I have had zero instances of anyone even filing a claim through PP.

eBay will not deny the request. Because after 30 days --
there's no radio button to ask eBay to trip and fall for it:
You can start a request, but it cannot be escalated.

But there should be a button for the seller to deny the return, correct?

That's true, and thank goodness. I was just trying to make certain the OP had the information they needed. Not certain why didn't like the first few posts.
