I now have over 1,000 items to update with add required specifics soon. Does anyone know what happens if I don’t add them? Do those listings get canceled? Just a waste of time and takes away from my time available to post new stuff.

I'm in the same boat here. I am VERY hesitant to start editing listings because I fear eBay will just dick everything up again and waste so much more of my time. I sell 99% sports cards, so bulk listing does not work because it is all different sports. Also, this week the "eBay experience" has been horrible for buyers actually trying to find items in these horribly changed categories. I just tried searching some things and it did not work well at all, I just don't get why eBay is shooting themselves in the foot here.

I list a variety of bookends that now require specifics. They are asking for "type". When I click the drop down menu the first option is "bookends". Apparently having "bookends" IN THE TITLE is insufficient.
Ditto my coffee mugs. They want "type", the drop down menu offers "coffee mug" WHICH IS IN THE TITLE !
SERIOUSLY ??? Aren't there any REAL problems that need to be solved.
If eBay's staff is looking for REAL things to fix - ASK US - I bet we could keep their plate full.

What happens if you don’t update required specifics?
Chinese water torture. 😉
I think you just get warned that it is "required" to add them instead of "suggested".

IS required "Soon" does not mean "Tomorrow". In this case, it means July 12th. Right now, I have a bunch to do and I plan on doing ten a day.....that will likely cover me....if I have to increase that later I will. If you prefer to do all of them at once, go ahead, but it isn't necessary.

I try to use this as an opportunity to review my listings , so I might also add shipping options, change price, etc.
It is important to have them all done by the deadline. I believe those that don't have the required IS by the deadline date will not be shown in search results. I don' think they are actually taken down, but I'm not sure of that.

Ebay says that you will no longer be able to lists items if you don't make these required changes. Also recommended changes will turn to required changes. My husband is having to update approximately 4,400 items, with a total of 6,322 changes. After putting in some time doing the changes, he has calculated it will take him 92 hours to complete. The other really brilliant thing about doing these changes is that he can't copy and paste the required changes that is already in the title of the listing. Like you my husband can't take time to add new listings but instead ebay has him doing these ridiculous changes. I used to sell on ebay but after all the hassles my husband in encountering I am going to sell on etsy.

Spent all afternoon on just ornament item specifics.
Worked on Harry Potter for hours.
So....you put in "theme", "series", etc Harry Potter. NOTHING populates the next field.
I get to "character". IT POPULATES DARTH VADER WTH is wrong with you e-Bay?
I "choose" ORNAMENT. It then asks for "occasion". Does it default to Christmas? He77 no. You start typing "chr"........it puts in BABY's 1st Christmas every freakin time. WHY would that be a choice over CHRISTMAS???????????????????????
Over 4 hours and still over 580 to go. Shoot me now. 😩

Yeah it’s really taking all the fun out of selling. They finally increased the number of included listings in stores only to make us all have to put in this extra work.

I have over 24,000 items listed. We have over 70,000 items that haven't been listed for whatever number of various reasons. Our field of sales is used automotive parts, so the number of item specifics varies greatly from one part to the next.
When I'm not answering messages or boxing up or palletizing sold items, I focus on going through the 70k unlisted items, checking the price that others are selling the item for, and the listing. I could do this for 8 hours a day, and buy the time I'm ready to retire, 20 years or so from now. They still wouldn't be all listed. Every day we process 2-3 cars, after removing the parts we sell so that we can take good pictures, about half of them hit some sort of a glitch between our built in listing feature on our inventory system.
So every day there are just more items added to that 70k of unlisted items.
If I have to go in and add item specifics to the 24k I've already got listed, plus add them to the 70k not listed, not only will I never get caught up, but the next guy that gets hired to do my job will have work available until he retires.
I would say it would all be worth it, but sales have just sucked lately.

This is absolutely insane. Error message when updating so YOU CANNOT UPDATE?? "Error - The provided condition id is invalid for the selected primary category id" or "Error - Card Attributes is not allowed as a variation specific". These changes/updates are causing grief to thousands and thousands of sellers. Heads should be rolling at eBay - no answers - no updates - just a deadline of July 12th. This is outrageous.
