After I received my item it was clear the seller had wrong info in their description. I asked the seller about it and they apologized, didn't have what I needed, and told me to start the returns process. I got the shipping label today and when I added the return tracking number to the system I was sent automated messages by eBay:
One said track your return and had the return tracking info I entered.
One said your order has shipped with the original shipment tracking info, delivered over a week ago.
In short, the system is sending out messages saying my order shipped which appears to be triggered by adding tracking to the return.
That won't be confusing to buyers at all...

The one that said delivered or order shipped is the original tracking number from when your seller sent the item to you. The other is your return tracking.

@justagirl12, you missed the point.

When ever a tracking number is entered it always says your item has been shipped. It's the same as when sellers print a shipping label the buyer gets the same message, even though it could be a Sunday night and it won't ship til the next day.
Yes many buyers think the same thing. I think now when they get the message if the actually click on the tracking number it will say label created.

I didn't think my post was confusing, but I'll try it again.
1. I purchased an item and it shipped about 2 weeks ago. eBay sent a shipping notification at that time which included a link to track the item, and the package was delivered a few days later.
2. Item was different than stated in listing. I questioned the seller, they apologized for the error and didn't have what I needed, told me to start returns process.
3. I started the returns process and received a return shipping label.
4. I printed the label, shipped the package and entered the tracking # into the case.
Entering the tracking number to the return case triggered 2 automated system responses.
a. I received a notification confirming that I shipped the item with a link to track my return.
b. I ALSO received a notification saying that my item had shipped (from the seller to me) with a link to track it. I was very confused and thought maybe the seller sent another package with the item needed. When I looked closer I realized the tracking info was the same one from 2 weeks ago (see point number 1). In other words, this message should not have been sent and only caused confusion to me, the buyer. Again, this was automatically sent when I uploaded return tracking.

Now I get it. That would be confusing and doesn't make sense. I'm assuming it's just another glitch of which there are many.
