Hello Friends,
I was just given a weapons violation notice, because of a pointed Kubaton that I have been selling for months. I searched and noticed many with the same or similar type of hand weapon. I did file an appeal, we'll see what happens.
Regards,
John...

When people mention that there are similar listings when they get a policy violation.
Some reason my mind always goes to speeding on the road. People are always getting away with it. Until someone doesn't.
You can't really argue with the cop that others are speeding.
Anyways it's a bad analogy but that is what always comes to my mind.
My recommendation is to not list again. Even if you win the appeal there is a chance it gets flagged again and you will get actual punishment because you ignored warning REGARDLESS of winning appeal.

Take robbie31415's advice even if you do win the appeal. Don't jeopardize your account there are simply too many other places you can sell these items. EBay is not the only game in town these days despite what some people think.

... and just before your listing was taken down, it was one of the many similar listings that other people saw.

Hi @etsvcs
In case you haven’t seen it, here is the link to eBay’s Weapons policy.
https://www.ebay.com/help/policies/prohibited-restricted-items/weapons-policy?id=5050
eBay’s policing of its listed items is often spotty. Given that it has over a billion items listed, some violations are going to get overlooked. That said, it is really not a defense to note others are doing it too, but are not removed.
Ultimately, it doesn’t matter what other sellers are doing. You are what matters. It is your account that was compromised and needs attention.
For the most part, weapons in general are not allowed to be listed. The other posters are dead right—for Pete’s sake, don’t relist this item ever again on eBay. Because even if it was removed incorrectly, i have seen first hand, sellers who got the green light to relist a pulled item, only to have the listing removed again, and a steeper penalty leveled on the seller.
eBay penalties are cumulative. Multiple violations of the same rule can quickly ruin a seller’s standing on eBay. In the interim, it can also get one’s listings lowered in Search results, can affect listing limits, as well as causing an increase in Final Value fees.

I agree, but I was selling this self-defense item consistently, yes, it was a razor-thin margin product, but at least it was something. I lost the appeal and complied with the ruling, but it does not seem fair that others are selling the same item that I was forced to take down.

It's like the policy of not being allowed to drop ship from other marketplaces like AliExpress, but people do it anyway, sell hundreds of products, and get Top Rated Seller status. I hate to be on this soapbox, but I prefer that the rules apply to everyone.

The rules do apply to everyone - they just are not enforced universally, accurately, and immediately. And IMHO that will never happen on a site with 20 million sellers and 1.5 billion listings that relies in part of community reports to identify violations.

I don't know these days, I've been working in IT for nearly 30 years (Wow). I know that there are scripts that can be run to isolate specifics.
