I've always gotten a huge laugh from the fact that eBay claims that they don't want us to accept Checks or MO's nor other forms of payments due to safety reasons regarding fraud. Yet the 3 main categories where eBay allows them are on the ones with very high priced items for sale.
Also eBay allows sellers in other countries like Italy to accept any form of payment that they want, and only claims that Paypal is just faster, when they post payment terms and conditions. What's up with all that?
Happy to clarify that certain payment methods are a concern in some categories, but would not be a concern in others. Some categories allow for alternative payment methods that would not covered by our standard eBay Money Back Guarantee. Motors and our Business & Industrial categories provide their own protection programs (http://pages.ebay.com/help/buy/ebaymotors-protection.html and http://pages.ebay.com/help/buy/business-protection.html respectively). While I understand you are concerned that a high priced item may pose a higher risk, I would not recommend making this kind fo assumption as there are still protections in place for our community.
As for other countries, often times there is local legislation that would require more payment options be made available. Every market is different and as a global company, we work to adapt to the expectations in each area.
