Walmart announced yesterday that they expect very slow sales for 2025, That sent the stock market into a panic & we should all take that with Great Concern, If the country's #1 retailer is predicting that we could be looking at some very dire times, I mentioned this type of thing happening way before the elections took place & i was told on this board that i was over-reacting & some even mocked & ridiculed, (you know how this board can be), Well now i can say I told you so!

We are still in flux on this subject as our President weighs the options. However some companies have been raising pricing in anticipation of what the President will do.
"Weighs the options" - sorry, but this is a set of completely transactional and reactive events with NO thought behind it.
Cannot stop laughing at the thought that he-who-shall-not-be-named is "weighing options" -- I mean, inasmuch as that would imply the capacity for judgment and even an actual "thought process."

Walmart has had great sales growth since the pandemic began. Higher income buyers have begun to shop there or increased their purchasing their.
There is a limit to how long this type of growth can continue. They could be at the limit. Walmart has ceased some activities which signaled virtue to some of these new to Walmart buyers, and may offend some.
This does not say there will not be tariff or other governmental actions which undermine Walmart sales and profit.
Some very smart people have suggested that the economy is not as strong as the government numbers we have been fed the past four years indicate. They could have been and still be correct.
With so many activities which are uncommon filling the news, why would any company overpromise in their outlook. Your stock does not go down if you exceed expectation, and the short term stock market effects seem to get attenuated within a few days.

All they need to do is get the news stations to mention snow and it'll bring the people in.
We were expecting snow last Tuesday and we decided to go to Walmart Monday to get a few things, boy that was a big mistake.
I haven't seen that many people at our Walmart since before Covid hit.

"February 2025...starting pay in Texas is around $12.55 per hour as a sales associate in Walmart"...LOL
Wonder why we have no Walmarts in San Francisco...minimum starting wage in San Francisco is $18.67 (including part-time and temporary).

Care to share the source of that information?
Here is the source meme6253 and should be taken with a grain of salt.
This is an invitation to those to say he is over-reacting & should be mocked & ridiculed. YMMV
Also, Walmart may be factoring all of the Chinese crap they sell will go up in price. I just hope we don't lose one of our most treasured retail institutions because of this. Walmart has done so much for local business's that if they go away, who knows if we will be able to survive as a nation. (SUPPLY CHAIN) I hope @meme6253 is wrong and just fear mongering as usual. YMMV
A slower growth outlook is not a sky is falling event as the #1 fear monger believes.
I despise going to Wal-Mart due to the constant crowded conditions throughout the day. Had to go back to my pandemic shopping hours of 6am-8am.
The only store we use that is worse is Costco. That place is nutz-busy every hour it is open.

I am not too sure if that is the only reason. The SnapCrap app showcases how far the city has fallen. I miss visiting that city and wish it comes back. Great food, people and music! Sad.

I don't know but hope you are right. I want to believe you but instead I will misplace my fears with what @meme6253 has suggested even though he have never been right. For some reason it feels safer. Thanks for trying to cheer me up. I don't know if Walmart can survive a paltry increase of 2%-3%. This is insane.

I suspect Walmart is pretty resilient, and they're now building their online presence.
The question is tariffs, and this changes everyday seemingly on a whim. By their very nature tariffs would pretty quickly translate into a regressive tax on the working and middle class - but who knows where that's going. I don't see a slower season for Wally World being "dire", though - it's just a slower season. We had the best economic recovery in the world - that is what I don't see lasting. But again, who knows.

minimum starting wage in San Francisco is $18.67
That's about$37,340 a year for full time work.
And WalMart is notorious for the 20 hour (no benefits) week.
How much is a one bedroom apartment in SF?

None here in NYC either! I would have to out of state or upstate to get even close to one.

Walmarts here in the far suburbs, but none in any metro area. Don't need them, don't want them - we have too many dead malls and big boxes as it is, derelict on land better devoted to farming.

Maybe the 'new' tariffs are a factor?
